Isn't there similar things for pets (dogs) that go a wandering and don't come back?
Yes, they call it a lead....Isn't there similar things for pets (dogs) that go a wandering and don't come back?
Yes. Same with cats. You have 3 options really - you can either use Tile, which i believe were the original airtag style company but coverage is spotty and it relies on another tile app user being in range of the item. Then there is airtag and android equivalents - much better coverage as it needs an apple device for example to ping it which happens automatically and a lot more of them than tile or other ecosystems similar to tile. Or there are dedicated GPS products where you pay a sub and they have a data sim in them, more accurate, more expensive, and quite ugly looking. each has their own +/-'sIsn't there similar things for pets (dogs) that go a wandering and don't come back?
Do you have a link please to the £80 4 pack on Amazon? I can only see tile tags for that price - the Apple ones are £99.
I use a Wahoo Roam ( also when riding have my phone with me) and have set up live tracking but have put AirTags on my road bikes after a friend of mine recovered both of his stolen bikes by an opportunist who broke into his garage. Agreed It’s not perfect for high end bike thief’s who are aware of what they are doing but may help with the opportunist.
Yes I was on holiday when Prime Day was on. I’m sure the offer will return. Costco were also selling a 4 pack for 79.99 too but they are out of stock as well.Ah, my bad - I bought mine on 11th July. I can see now there is a 1-2 week delay on the despatch date so they must have sold out. It was the official Apple Store listing on Amazon.

How does this work then, quote from Apple website:
"AirTag is designed to discourage unwanted tracking. If someone else’s AirTag finds its way into your stuff, your iPhone will notice it’s travelling with you and send you an alert. After a while, if you still haven’t found it, the AirTag will start playing a sound to let you know it’s there."
So if someone steals my bike, he gets an alert that I'm tracking him?
If he has an iphone, yes.
Designed to stop stalkers and the like.
You only get the notification if the tag is moving with you I believe. My wife doesn't get notifications that the 3 tags in our house track her, because they don't, they aren't moving.
If someone makes off with your bike I think you need to track it quick or they will get a notification.
So not really an anti theft (or pro stalking) device, just anti loss device?
The anti theft thing would probably be the most appealing thing about it, but can't see how they can do that without having the stalkers. Although saying that, I'm not sure how useful this could be for stalkers, as they'd have to plant one to do the stalking (and have it with them all the time).
I would have thought that if you had it with you a lot of the time (or it was in the same location a lot), then it being away from you/ that location would be enough of a sign it's been nicked, rather than you're stalking. So you could maybe get an alarm it's not with you, then you click to confirm it's being stolen and happy for an alert to go to the police of it's location (and those near it don't get an alert). Then if the same thing is happening over and over again then it's obviously not been nicked a lot and you're just a stalker (so it should inform the police anyway).
Just seems silly to lose the anti-theft option, for the sake of some stalkers (and could maybe be simple to differentiate from the two, or have it less appealing to stalkers).
