Gym people - SkiErg machine

Alright dudes, was in my gym yesterday and noticed they’d had a new bit of gear tucked away in the corner. Googled it and it’s a strange thing called a SkiErg. Being the curious little fox that I am I have it a whirl, only for a few minutes and I’ve no idea if I was doing it properly or if my technique was anywhere near.

Anyway, today I can barely move and have been stuck to the sofa. Anybody any experience of this thing? Unsure if I ever want to try it again given the state of me today

Our gym has one and it's a favourite of Mrs Ingbar, who gave it a similar write up to yours.

Might have to give it a go.

I have a PT session once a week and he gets me on this doing intervals - three sets of timed “sprints” with the expectation of doing more strokes each time. It is VERY aerobic and surprisingly testing on the old legs. Don’t think I would do it without somebody standing over me making sure posture is good- too easy to get it wrong, well for me it is! Worth using though.

Ski erg is the perfect complement to the rower, done properly it works almost all you're anterior chain. Need to get the technique right, too many people seem to use them more as a tricep pull down, should be hip hinging down.

Canny bit of kit. Reached the parts other machines can’t. I do recall a pain suit the day after my first encounter with the ski erg machine

As said above, good alternative to the rower. Hits the full posterior chain as well as the anterior chain if done correctly. Most of the power coming from the hinge, so you should feel it in the hamstrings and glutes as well as your triceps.

Used a lot in crossfit and functional fitness gyms
