Preston born 8th December 1946, signed for the mighty Boro when John Neal paid Cardiff City £72k for his signature & what a striker he turned out to be, he scored on his debut away to Man Utd in a 3-2 defeat
Between 1978 -81 he played 67 games, scoring 24 goals, cracking ratio

When his playing career finished he coached the juniors at Ayresome Park

Not forgetting his 4 goals at home to Chelsea in Danny Blanchflowers 1st game as manager & Osgoods return to Chelse

I was at that game and remember it well. He was a good player Micky Burns a bargain. Wish we had someone like him now. Lots of bother with the Chelsea crowd during and after the game. Walked out of the chicken run into Clive road after the game and there was groups of them attacking anyone with a red scarf on.

Think he was a PE teacher before he became a pro. And didn't he end up high up in the PFA or something similar? Haven't heard anything about him for years.
 
Weren't we on the verge of signing him but he turned us down for Cardiff? He was there for about 5 minutes then he signed for us.
