I honestly think wingbacks are the way forward for us next season

To me we have the ideal players here to do it (when they’re all fit that is) Jones and Bangura are both rapid, the perfect overlapping wide players in those wingback roles, with Rav, Clarke and Lenihan as the three centre backs. I think we’d leak less goals playing this system and also benefit offensively too.

All depends on who we sign in the summer really. If we can sign a good defensive midfielder and a player similar to Summerville then I think sticking with 4321 will be our best option.

I would like to think Carrick will be more willing to switch to wing-backs at times though, especially when we're playing away from home.

If we’re going to continue with a back four we need far better full backs than we currently have - by that i mean ones that can actually defend reliably

I'm hoping two new full-backs will be signed in the summer.

We definitely suit a wing back formation with ( presumingly ) Ayling / Jones one side ... engel and Bangura the other ..

Either way we need a LW with pace and CDM athlete

A pacey left sided midfielder should be one of the top priorities this summer

We can play wingbacks in one off games as a tactical approach in games versus stronger opposiiton

But as a base formation, no thanks, its first and foremost a containing formation that severly limits attacks in wide areas
and Carrick is not really a fan of it anyway as the times he's used it is when the availability of players has pretty much
forced it

4-2-3-1 is the way

I think Ayling can do a job. His legs have definitely not 'gone'. Also being a decent wingback isn't all about pace.

You have to be able to cross the bloody thing at the end of one of those blistering runs. Ayling has the best delivery out of our current RBs. We missed his crosses into the box last night.

The total lack of anyone even trying to cross from wide areas was strange last night. Especially late on.
