I was impressed how Paul Merton just read that statement out and delivered it with no comic effect. Summed it up for me.

Christmas for me is an enforced two week holiday from work
In all honesty I would rather work. I spend most of that fortnight alone, my family and friends all work over the period.
The days are short, everywhere apart from the shopping centres are closed.
Football fixtures are rarely kind and I can’t usually get up north to watch Boro on Boxing Day.
It’s preceded by two months of stress. My mother in particular gets stressed about present buying, who will cook on Xmas day etc.
I honestly don’t remember the last time I enjoyed Xmas.

Easter’s alright though. Just a long weekend when the weathers getting nicer.

I'm not a fan of Christmas but this will my 3 sober one in a row. Love it more since I'm not smashed. I wish I could stop turning to vodka when darkness descends. It only makes everything worse. Talking the best thing I do to help me. Not always but better than 2.5 years ago. Take it easy mate, you will come out the other side.

yes, it can be grim, November, seems like it's all closing in. And it can be hard to find the light, but that is what Christmas is supposed to be, the light within. My advice is forget about all the stress and commercialism of Christmas, that's not what it's really about, it's about the light within that is always there, and there to get us through the dark times.
