MLS Forward's racist remark

Dante Vanzeir has been suspended for six games for using a racist remark during a match against the San Jose Earthquakes by the MLS.

Does anyone else feel this lenient and should have been a longer suspension? He's also received an undisclosed fine.

If we are to stamp out racism in the game then we need to be throwing the book at anyone found guilty of it.

I think the punishments around racism are questionable for fans but for footballers themselves they should be severe because they are an example for fans.

It's probably not football's job to educate society so there's only so much they can do but banning people for racist abuse doesn't stop people being racist. There will be plenty of racists still in attendance, still thinking racist things and still being outwardly racist outside of football when they are in their safe havens but aware enough to not act upon it where they could get banned from doing something they enjoy. I don't know what the answer is but educating people properly that racism isn't a good/bad thing but a right/wrong thing might be a start. Racism isn't bad, it is wrong. Being good/bad is a choice but you can't choose for something to be right or wrong, it either is or it isn't. There is no superiority between races so to be racist is just plain wrong. By making it a moral issue it allows people to get away with being dumb enough to be racist but being intelligent enough to know not to act racist in the wrong places. If we treated racists like we treated flat earthers then they might re-think their position but people don't mind being bad so if you tell them that their racism isn't accepted all they hear is "don't be racist in public".
