ALL THE COURTYARD’S A STAGE FOR NEW OPEN-AIR SEASON.

Open-air theatre makes a welcome return to Middlesbrough Town Hall Courtyard this summer with a new season of Theatre Go-Round productions.

Featuring four brand new shows from outdoor performance specialists, the line-up for 2023 includes two Shakespeare, a David Walliams adaptation and a children’s classic.

The Theatre Go-Round was initially re-launched after the early lockdowns as a way of bringing theatre safely back to audiences, in an outdoor setting.

The programme is now going from strength to strength and audiences can regularly enjoy the opportunity to see a show in a different setting, right in the heart of Middlesbrough town centre.

The summer season begins with Comedy of Errors, presented by open-air regulars, The Pantaloons. Silly slapstick and cartoonish capers tell the tale of Shakespeare’s funniest farce.

Families will delight in Bad Dad by David Walliams, adapted by Heartbreak Productions and The Ugly Duckling from Folksy Theatre.

A warm-hearted tale that follows the highs and lows of a father and son relationship, Bad Dad is perfect summer family entertainment. Navigating its way through car chases and convicts, the fast and furious adventure is ideal for children aged seven plus.

Folksy Theatre will bring a new adaptation of the fairy tale, The Ugly Duckling featuring live music, puppetry and colourful characters. The family musical is suitable for all ages.

Folksy Theatre return to round off the season with The Merry Wives of Windsor. Shakespeare’s tale of marriage, wealth, jealousy and lies is filled with live music and colourful characters.

Middlesbrough Theatre Manager David Lindsey said: “It’s a delight to bring the open-air Theatre Go-Round season back to Middlesbrough Town Hall this summer.

“We hope that audiences will enjoy the programme and look forward to experiencing the magic of theatre in the outdoor Courtyard.

“As always, we’ll be keeping a careful eye on the weather forecast. Rain will not stop play and the shows will go on! If severe weather is forecast, we will move inside to the Town Hall Crypt.”
