The Dijksteel situation

Can't expect a player who has always been a bit prone to mistakes to come in and start a game after 5/6 months of not playing and play against the best player in the league.

He had some great games for us, notably Spurs in the FA Cup. A key part of the trio alongside Crooks and Jones which flourished under Wilder.

It's probably time for both the club and player to move on in the summer.

Good going forward, but an atrocious defender

Unlucky with the penalty last night really tbh, but his performance all game was sub-standard.
Unless my memory is failing me, he has given quite a few pens away over the years. He also offers absolutely nothing of a goal threat. 4 assists and zero goals in 124 games. Ayling has beaten that attacking output in just 17 matches with 5 assists.

It might seem, harsh, I like Anfernee, he's honest and hard working, but he's miles behind someone like Ayling. It's all about levels and an average player in a lower half champo side is Anfernees career high point. Selling Anfernee, and signing Ayling is a no brainer and I'd try and wrap that up as soon as we can.

I'm not sure why you think it was unlucky. It was rank defending. He was beaten easily, had about 20 yards running alongside him where he could have brought him down and took a yellow, instead he waited till he stepped inside the box and challenged straight through the back of him where he had no chance of winning it. It was a stonewall penalty.

Was he unlucky with the Pen'? I surely cannot be the only one who saw it coming a mile off while he was running shoulder to shoulder and the wrong side of the goal?

The build up to the penalty looks even worse on the replay.

I was screaming for Dijksteel to put a tackle in in the stadium, but he just jogged along side him.

Happened again for the second goal, just passively watching during the build up and allowing them to eventually get a cross in.
Obviously Dieng should have dealt with the cross, so it's more on him than anyone.

The third goal, offside, so Dijksteel did his job right there by stepping forwards, but bad officiating cost him and us.

The 4th goal, Dijksteel just totally lost Summerville.
He's the best player in the league this season, so it's not a shock he's scored, but he had the freedom of the park to run in on goal.

Felt for him. Yes, he had a shocker but he hadn't played for five months and came in against Summerville. Was only ever going to go one way sadly and that will be that for him here. I would love to see him flourish somewhere in the Championship and enjoy his football because it just hasn't happened for him since MC took charge. He'll be hurting today.

Be interesting to see where he ends up. Last night was a League 1 performance for me, albeit we know he's rusty and capable of better. Lower half Championship team maybe?

Ailing is twice the player than Smith , Dijksteel will go leaving us with only a crocked? Smith. Signing Ayling is a no brained for me.
Id agree that Ayling is twice the player, but Smith has another seasons contract to run as does Dijksteel and Ayling hasnt he is a loan player and is 32 now and 33 in August. Perhaps we should look for a younger model like they did with Crooks?

I just can`t see them ditching either Smith or Dijksteel as its a big cost. They must have lost their senses giving Smith a new 2 seasons contract.
