The Hull City gamble backfired then…

Hull gambled and lost as we did last season. I'm not convinced O'Brien, Greenwood, Thomas and Ayling will have been cheap though. They probably aren't miles ahead of us in terms of loan cost.

Surely they’re much less, than hulls highest loans and what we loaned last year

O’Brien was loaned out to the mls, before us, they just wanted him out the door.

Greenwood won’t have been on big wages as he’d only got 4 prem starts to his name, he’s effectively right at the start of his career.

Thomas is a players who is being released for free. So again won’t be on carvalho type wages. Ayling won’t have been cheap, but again surely not huge.

Giles and delap were in demand and carvalho is too good to have been a cheap option. I’d think Carlos loan must have been comparable to three of our loans on his own

I'm convinced we've paid less but that's still not the same as cheap. My gut says O'Brien will have been similar to what we paid for Mowatt last season, if not more being a PL loan. Greenwood would have been a decent amount but with a reasonable permanent transfer value, Ayling and Thomas were both half season but high reputation players so not cheap. Cheaper than last season's loans but not bargains

O’Brien - My gut says they knew they were sailing close to the wind with ffp, they shipped him out to mls which won’t have paid 1/4 of his wages. Then to us, so I think he’ll be cheaper than mowatt. Out of the 4 Ayling is probably a bargain as he’s been excellent and will possibly lead to a full contract

Greenwood was a fringe player at Leeds, they signed him at 19 with zero league appearances. He won’t be on huge wages. He’s a prospect, I doubt he’s on proper prem wages, he’ll still be relatively expensive but a fraction of what Carnalea is on

Ayling were probably paying most of his wages

Thomas probably not, he’s a complete fringe player at Leicester this season.

Their owners will, how are they doing for FFP though?
There was rumblings earlier this season that they're flying close to FFP.
Gotta say, dunno what on earth themselves and Luton have done to Giles. Man looks terrified to cross a ball
RTG has about 200 FFP related threads on other clubs as if they were hoping a load would lose points so they would get promoted

Jaden Philogene is Hull City’s most saleable asset I think atm

Do Aston Villa have one of those dodgy buyback clauses on him like they have with archer and Ramsey?

Greaves linked with West Ham - probs looking at £15m+

They've taken a huge gamble, including in January, on reaching the playoffs in the worst season I can think of to do so - the top 4 teams are miles ahead of the rest, so essentially that translates to the final two places for them to go for.

There's lots of rumours about several championship clubs that will be sanctioned next season under the PaS rules, I can't help but think Hull must be one.

Their wage bill was £22m in 2022/3 and rose a lot this season possibly by 50%. Their crowds are up a bit but they charge low ticket prices and average under 22,000? Their large losses of 2022/23 will be higher this season. A poster on here calculated they were OK this season on FFP, because of their big sale in 2022 - allowed £39m loss over 3 years. But that sale drops out next season so will have to cut back in 2024/25.
