Anfernee “Anf” Dijksteel, is starting to get a reputation for scoring crucial goals. Having worn the famous red n white for five seasons, our right back had never scored a senior goal in League or Cup for Boro – until that 3-0 victory against Leeds at Elland Road in the Caraboa Cup, way back on a warm night in mid-August. Weaving past Leeds defenders like they weren’t there, picking his spot and knocking it past sprawling Leeds goalkeeper “Darlo”. It broke the deadlock that night and set us up for an emphatic win!

Dijksteel scores his first Boro goal against Leeds at Elland Road in the Caraboa Cup in August!
It seemed like a repeat on Friday night, with his spectacular goal against Burnley at a soaked Turf Moor. It looked like he'd tripped, but somehow his right foot directed the ball past the on-coming goalie. He was asked if Carrick "tells" him to get “forward” up the pitch ?:
Yes. Especially on the outside, when I get the ball past the winger. That's one of my better attributes, to run forward and try to find [our] number ten striker.

"The boys" celebrate Anfernee`s goal, but the Burnley ball-boy doesn't look too happy!
"Anf" certainly did a job against a Burnley side with the meanest defence in the league. What was our right back doing just outside the Burnley area? That pinpoint pass from Dan Barlaser, released him on the right, where he appeared to trip, but managed to flick it into the empty net past the oncoming goalie!
I know when I scored [from] probably one of the best passes to me. He [Barlaser] saw a gap…….and I tried thinking, and I didn’t know where it would fall. When it went in, I was surprised.
Overall, Dijksteel thought it was “a good game to watch”, but “really tough” for our defence. They certainly didn’t let up after we scored: it's so unusual for a Scott Parker side to concede a goal at home!
Scott Parker bemoaned missed chances, claiming Burnley had been the "better side".
"They scored a goal against the run of play, and that was probably down to us a little bit. Certainly, it's something we need to look at in that we gifted that a little bit in terms of the way we positioned ourselves."

They have now only conceded seven goals in total in the Championship! Chris Wilder`s Sheffield United come second with eleven conceded!

Was Dieng too far off his line for the Burnley equaliser?
Arguably, Dieng could have been better-placed to stop Connor Roberts shot from 25 yards out. We know the weather conditions weren't ideal, with a swirling wind in our faces, but could he have stayed closer to his line to try and prevent the Burnley equaliser?
"Disappointed" at Burnley Result:
Carrick believes we could have beaten Burnley.
Michael Carrick, appeared disappointed after the game, especially with the two or three chances we had in the second half to put the game to bed and take all three points.
It's probably a good sign we’re slightly disappointed, to be honest: that we haven't ended up winning the game.
It was a tight game. We've played probably better in certain spells and certain moments than in other games, for sure, with the quality of the football.
They are a good team that close certain spaces down. It was a good game, a good battle against two good teams. In the end, there was a point. Nice that we are disappointed [because] it shows where we're at, at the moment.

Ben Doak and Hayden Hackney worked hard against a tough Burnley side.
Carrick insisted the “game” plan wasn't changed, in spite of the inclement weather. The wind and persistent rain made it “difficult” at times, but this is what Championship football looks like in Winter in England. We can expect it to be cold, wet, and windy, and pitches won't always be like the billiard table at The Riverside. It's worth remembering that Carrick has played hundreds of games in all kinds of conditions as a top-class Midfielder, adapting to those conditions as an individual in a team, and now as a manager. It's unlikely he will take any excuses from his current crop of charges:
[The Weather] Doesn't change the game plan at all, it obviously becomes more difficult to try and play. You can see [the ball] swaying. You can see it drop thirty yards away from where you think it's gonna be in the air. So we tried to keep the ball on the ground as much as we can.
For Carrick, we “defended well”, “stuck together” and we showed we can compete with anyone in this league. We breached their solid defence and could have taken all three points: A perfect example was George Edmundson’s header, which fizzed just past the outside of the left-hand post.

Edmundson knew he had missed a chance to put us ahead.
In spite of everything, our form is on the up, and it appears the magic “corner” is being turned. We mustn't kick ourselves for too long at not winning on a filthy night in East Lancashire. We are in the “top six”, which two months ago, seemed a far away dream. The poor start to the season is behind us, and it feels this maybe the real start of our charge towards promotion. We've had many false dawns, but against Burnley, we showed why we are where we are, and just what we need to do, to turn nights like that into three points, not just one.
