Boro flashback - 11th October 1972
League cup 3rd round replay
1st division Spurs v 2nd division Boro at WHL
The mighty Boro battled to earn a 0-0 draw
After drawing the 1st league cup fixture 1-1 at Ayresome Park a week earlier (which was our 25th league Cup fixture since the competition started in 1960) we travelled to North London for the replay & after 90 minutes, followed by extra time, the tie was still in the balance as neither team could find the back of the next to progress to the next round
Before kickoff both captains & the ref, decided by a toss of a coin who would be at home if a replay was again needed, this was long before penalty shoot outs decided the outcome on the night, the Spurs captain won the toss of the coin & unfortunately, Spurs would have home advantage for the 2nd replay
