Suffered his 1st defeat in the Boro dugout when the mighty Boro went down 4-0 to our neighbours at Roker park, if VAR had been around back then all goals would have been overruled & we'd have drawn 0-0 ;)

His managerial record up to this point was played 3, won 2, drew 1

Sheps team

Jim Platt
John Craggs
Frank Spraggon
Bill Gates
Stuey Boam
Willie Maddren
Eric McMordie
David Mills
Malcolm Smith
John Hickton
Graeme Souness
Sub
Peter Brine

Not a bad looking team, I would say with the right man brought in & a few tweaks here & there, a ball playing midfielder & we could go places, not that I know much, just a hunch ;)

In his 2nd spell as caretaker didn't we win all the games , think it was the 80s but can't remember for sure

Maybe someone like a Bobby Murdoch and Alan Foggon and that young lad Armstrong for McMordie,Smith and Gates could make it into a promotion winning team. We'll never know.Oh ... hang on.

Correct jam, 1982 between Bobby Murdoch & malcolm Allison, 2 games, Shrewsbury away 2-2 & Bolton at home 1-1

He was Boro's caretaker manager on 4 occassions
