Machine learning in particular is really just pattern matching.

I don't think we need to get too worried just yet. Well, not with AI; governments are a different matter...

China are very good at the “Artificial” bit!!

huge strides in this arena over the last 20 years. Apparently these robots that can walk are a good case study in the advances in AI. It's near impossible to programme a robot to walk, it's just far far too complicated. Getting them to understand balance, terrain, gravity, steps upwards/downwards, slippery liquids etc. Self learning is used to let the robots work out by repeated failure until they get success. Same way that a baby learns to stand, then wobble and fall, until eventually they can walk.

AI is getting smarter all the time, skynet is coming.

It’s a scary thought to imagine what things will be like in 10/20 years time. A dark contrast to the golden age of American futurism back in the 50s/60s.

My dad used to say we see 10-15% of what is in fact the 'capability' of the intelligence services. He also said once Governments could monitor people though technology, we'd have far less freedom of speech or action.

How right he was.

The reality of dystopia was and its effect on society and control is much worse than prophesied

I didn't see the programme - it sounds good.

I suppose the famous Deep Blue (chess) and AlphaGO computers are right at the cutting edge of machines that can learn things to better what humans can do - the question is can that principal of learning be used in other areas. If it can, we might be finished
