US Open tips and fancies

Massively disappointing from McIlroy, this one will absolutely haunt him.
Great effort to come back today, but totally bottled it when the heat was on.

Scheffler is hard to bet against at the moment and the difficulty of the course makes me lean more towards him than away from him. I've backed him at 10/3 to win. Bryson has had me returns at the Masters and PGA and I think it is going to be approach play that wins it this week and his long driving means he's approaching greens with wedges instead of mid irons and I think that gives him an edge.
Rare that my analysis gets me results (excluding the bits about Scheffler). 27/1 winner.

Rory really should have won though and he didn't even get a playoff. He's beaten himself again really. Needs to sort his head out. Pointless spending time on the range. It's not his golf that's stopping him winning majors.

Why didn’t he take a 3 wood on the last hole? He’d took it all week then wacks a driver into the rough today! Three bogies in the last four holes tells the story.

It all came down to the driver being selected
Game management
I've seen a lot of criticism of his caddy online
Don't know the guy but I think it's maybe justified
You need a calm head by your side to pull the reins in when you're In the heat of battle
Tough ask though ..comes down to character.
He probably needs an older wiser man by his side for such moments
He will.doubtless never get over that loss in a sporting sense but he will.win a major shortly
Unlucky son.
Brysons bunker shot on the.last was the shot of a champion
Hats off...he's got charisma

Am not convinced he will win another major. Hope Im wrong but last night will haunt him and he is already fragile mentally.

I was reading that his caddy is his best mate. Maybe he needs someone who is going to make a case against his decisions when he is going to make a bad one instead of just agreeing with him.

That being said, he didn't lose that tournament because of his choice of Driver. Bryson made the same choice. They both hit it long and the reason they were there at the top of the leaderboard is because playing from the sandy rough 50 yards further ahead gives them a better chance of putting i close than playing a long iron from the fairway. Didn't work out for either of them on that last hole but they both put their 3rd close enough for a tap in par. Two putts under 3ft are what lost him the tournament and that is purely his own mental game. The caddy can't be blamed for that. He did enough to at least not lose that last hole, even with the bad choice off the tee. Bryson won it with a par. That's all Rory needed to take it to a playoff.

I don't think I've ever been so gutted for a sportsman to lose out in the fashion that he did. A lot has been made about Rory's mental approach to the game and you just sat there watching him roll in birdies on 10, 13 and 14 thinking "this is it!".

It is worrying that he didn't have any media (understandable) but he seems to have vanished off the face of the earth.

He didn't even go and congratulate Bryson. Not doing interviews etc is kind of understandable but to not even show respect to your competitor is not being a very good sport. Bryson was in exactly the same situation as Rory at the PGA and as soon as he saw Xander's putt go in he went back to the 18th, shook his hand and then left him to it. Rory just left. No excuses for that.

How would you know Rory didn't drop Bryson a message? These things don't have to be visible.

Fair point. It's not the done thing though. It is usually visible.

Maybe all will be revealed in the next Full Swing series. Hopefully the cameras were there with him recording.

I think you're underestimating the role a few well placed words can make. Take a deep breath, distraction, focusing thoughts, take yourself out of the moment. There's a lot a caddy can do in that situation.

There isn't much more Rory can do in terms of his game physically. His faults are all mental and a different caddy could make the world of difference there.
