Vaccinations to start in the UK tomorrow

An amazing job by the nhs to organise and roll this out, this isn’t some token southern only thing either as they will start vaccinations here on teesside at that time as well.

Well done to all involved

So far, the government has ordered a total of 40 million doses. That's enough to vaccinate 20 million people, with two shots each, 21 days apart.

But it's just one of the vaccines that have been ordered. In total, the UK has ordered around 350 million doses from different developers, including:

100 million doses - University of Oxford/AstraZeneca
60 million doses - Novavax
60 million doses - Valneva
60 million doses - GSK/Sanofi Pasteur
30 million doses - Janssen
Seven million doses - Moderna

I’m no fan of this govt but this can’t be knocked regardless of the colour of your rosette on Election Day.

It's their last chance to show the general public that they can organise a p*** up in a brewery.

To be fair, they handed orgaization of this to the NHS, an organization that actually knows something about the subject matter. It's a crying shame they didn't do the same with track and trace.

On a different note does anyone know how they are notifying people of a due vaccination? I would have thought care homes would be easy enough, but for those living in the wider community, how are the NHS notifying, through GP's?

It’ll be like Willy Wonka’s chocolate bar gold wrappers . You guys suggest what they enclose them in ? I anticipate a BUPA new Members welcome pack

I would expect a text from your GP

Well done the NHS, what a stroke of genius handing the organisation of a health related task to experts.

I had my flu jab on Saturday, I had a text message from my GP practise telling me to go to the Darlington Football Stadium (the one Dodgy George built) between 08:30 and 17:30, no appointment necessary. So I turned up about 09:30 once Mrs Mutt had hauled her rrse out of bed and 20 minutes later I was on my way home. On arrival, we were split into two queues which led to gazebo-like tents where you switched your engine off, roll up your sleeve and pop - straight in your arm and buggger off (told if you feel tired to wait 15 minutes before driving as I was only 5 minutes from home and felt fine I drove straight off).

I imagine that a similar system will be employed for the COVID roll out.

Bring it on.

How brilliant is it that we are starting the vaccination programme tomorrow. Just feels like a momentous moment in the covid story, hopefully the beginning of the end! My enthusiasm for this moment is not meant to overlook what has gone before and anybody whom has being impacted has my heartfelt sympathies.

I'd give it a few weeks and see how people get on with it. I'm not one of these anti vaccine clowns but i would like to see how it effects people.

I am sure it's fully tested but not sure I'd want to be one of the first. I had a yellow fever jab once (as going to West Africa) and it flattend me for a week. You just don't know how everyone reacts.

That said my parents are 77 and 81 and I think they are 'going for it'. My dad joked he's updated the will😂

As said you just know how everyone reacts whether you take it tomorrow not 4 months time.

Trump officials passed when Pfizer offered US more vaccine doses this summer
The Trump administration declined additional doses of the Pfizer coronavirus vaccine late this summer when the pharmaceutical company offered them to the U.S. government, a senior Trump administration official familiar with the matter confirmed to ABC News.

Pfizer may be unable to produce more of the vaccine for United States citizens until June 2021 because it has committed those doses to other countries.

"The U.S. government placed an initial order of 100 million doses for Pfizer-BioNTech’s COVID-19 vaccine, and Pfizer is ready to begin shipping initial doses soon after receiving an Emergency Use Authorization from the FDA," Pfizer told ABC News in a statement.

"Any additional doses beyond the 100 million are subject to a separate and mutually-acceptable agreement. The company is not able to comment on any confidential discussions that may be taking place with the U.S. government."

The development was first reported by New York Times.

Fantastic !!!!

My cousin got the vaccine today, he's a dentist in his 30s, the lucky so and so.

I'll likely be waiting many months yet.

I asked this on the other thread

But will those that were sceptical now be more inclined to take the the astra Zeneca vaccine give today’s findings in the lancet

The Oxford/AstraZeneca Covid vaccine is safe and effective, giving good protection, researchers have confirmed in The Lancet journal.

Has it been released how many got immunised today? Are they only doing it office hours or is it round the clock?
