What is an activist?

Yesterday I questioned on Lord Houchen’s Facebook page the duplicitous nature of a posting he used editing out Chris McEwan’s answers to push his own agenda.

Whilst the normal Tory plants descended on me with their benign and on occasion rude comments, Mrs McTeauge is a particularly vociferous contributor to Talk Tory, Lord Houchen himself described me as a ‘Labour Activist’? Any ideas what that means? Am I a socialist, yes. Is the Labour Party the closest in its ideology to my thinking, it’s probably second to the Greens but electorally they cannot remove the Tory government so yes.
Have I marched for a Labour Party cause? No
Have I canvassed for the Labour? No

What is it do you think that actually gets you branded a ‘Labour Activist’ by Lord Houchen?

I'm surprised your comment wasn't immediately deleted with a block following.

Usually the Houchen way.

Pointing out his history of lies, half-truths and ridiculous boondoggles.

Like the new hospital he doesn't have the power to build.

In the context it means that you are not someone just offering your view but someone that works with/for the opposition to essentially troll his content with negativity.

This is the worst thing about politics in the social media age. It is so binary that people have to be on the everything with person X is perfect or everything with person X is evil side of things that there is no room for debate in the middle. Most people aren't that extreme but the system kind of forces it. This sort of place, while majority leans heavily one way, is at least open enough that individual people and policies can be debated. Even then you still get people calling people with a different viewpoint to them Tory shills or Momentum activists etc.

I'd be a little careful here mate. Took me about a minute to find your comment within that post, hence your real name.

The loons in the other forum love to find out people's real identities and then use that to issue threats to them.

That might not bother you in the slightest but just wanted you to be aware. They are seriously unstable and worth being cautious about (y)

I wouldn't take it as an insult, it just means you are actively supporting the other party etc. I'd imagine Old Ben would use it to describe anyone online who has vocalised their support for Labour.

Houchen trying) to build himself an echo chamber (and successfully achieving to be honest) on his socials won't help his progression, but it may nurse his ego. Ego's don't win elections, but him masking off the debate may help stop him bleeding voters, which may be enough, but it's not a very honest tactic, par for the course as a Tory of course.

He doesn't need to win now though, not new voters anyway, he just needs to not lose too many voters, so that's what he seems to be focusing on. To be honest, it's the best tactic he has, and he does do that quite well, in an annoying way for people who just want honesty, but he's exceptionally misleading and loves bending the truth or snapping it in half.

Not being able to debate or answer people who want what is best for the area (which is pretty much everyone) is an extremely bad trait he has. Any time he does answer it's very aggro, smug, condescending, lacking clarity/ evidence, or just blatant lies. None of that lot is very good either for a politician, but ticks a lot of Tory boxes.

I think it’s actually quite sad that he feels the need to do this. He obviously gets a lot of positive comments from his voters, why try and dupe the public by making out that you get zero criticism. Especially when the polling is so close, it’s just not realistic, not even close.

Luckily a lot of people who post in his echo chamber aren't actually from the area and so cannot vote for him.

It's a PR exercise. Jacob Young is the same on Facebook, but ask anyone in the street about him and they're likely to say "Jacob who?"

Yeah, good point 👍

Probably full of bot comments too I expect.
