Randy's Hip Hop/Rap Thread.

Deep diving in my week off.
Found this cracker.

His back catalogue is brilliant. But obviously doesn't fit that mainstream appeal which is a massive shame.

Well, I guess it must be an age thing, but I just do not understand the attraction of this genre. Folk, Rock, Blues, Classical, all work for me, but I was clearly born too late to be receptive to people swearing about guns n bitches. 😉

You forgot drugs. Coke Rap is outstanding.

On a serious note, it’s quite a narrow minded opinion to have about a whole genre of music but you can only speak on what you have been exposed to in the mainstream.

Kendrick Lamar won the Pulitzer Prize for music for DAMN, were you aware of that? Give him a listen, you might discover something you enjoy.

Thanks, I will do. I’m aware that it’s quite a closed minded view, which is why I have been trying to understand what drives the appreciation of rap.

Bit old for rap I'm afraid, although I did like a lot of early Eminem. There's a few on here that are interesting which I'll follow up. This thread can't finish without putting up The Message from '82, although more hip-hop than rap. The chorus is still sung in this house jokingly when things are going badly.

Very brief career, can't find any vids to post, but anyone remember The Goats? Circa 1992-1993, massively under rated imo. Tricks of the Shade possibly my favourite underground rap album of all time, weird concept that it was 👍

No I don't but I'm going to search it on YouTube music later, cheers. Basically what this thread is all about, discovering new (and old) music from the hip hop, rap, grime genres

Very political, from Philadelphia which wasn't the hot bed of rap like New York/LA . And their debut concept album is.....unique. Worth a listen👍

I watched Chuck D's series recently and The Message was a solid earworm afterwords, the "it's like a jungle" lines in particular. With a particularly volatile teenage grandkid chucking emotional handgrenades around at the moment, it has seemed apt.
