Worst Ever Boro 11 - We have our team!

CB - Phil Whelan and Mick Saxby. This ought to be over in about 15 minutes, zero debate.

You can add Mick Baxter to that if there's a tie breaker, or if Wilder gets involved.
I'm with you Chutney
Saxby and Whelan 👍

Mick Baxter RIP scored that header v Arsenal in the FACUP to win it 3-2 also he got cancer and sadly died so I don't think we saw the player that we signed....

Controversial perhaps but I'm going with Alan Kernaghan.

Never looked like a footballer to me, very ungainly on the ball, slow and constantly berated and blamed team mates when mistakes were made.

Offloading him to Citeh was a quality bit of business.

Sold for £1.6m to Man City (more than Mowbray) and scored a hatrick at Ewood Park as a makeshift striker we've had far worse than that

Saxby's definitely the worst I have witnessed in a Boro shirt, as mentioned earlier I would have Sean St Ledger alongside him, honourable mentions for the woeful Seb Hines and that McManus fella Strachan brought from Celtic, who I believe Mowbray had already shipped out before he inherited him!

Have to agree re Sean St Ledger (if only for sheer difference between expectation and reality - thought we were getting Alan Hanson and got Alan Bennett) and Phil Whelan, who was just awkward, slow and bad.

An honourable mention, however, for Alan ‘Does The Damage’ Ramage who, I fear, had he not been a local lad, would have roundly derided by all.

His pin-point targetting of row Z was legendary, To his credit, he did get ‘stuck in’ (usually about half a second too late) but his distribution consisted of hoofing the ball in the general direction of ‘up the air’ or ‘into the stands’, even if we had a 5 to 2 counter attack on.

Having been brought up on the likes of Maddren and Boam, Ramage was just too Sunday league for me. An ‘old fashioned’ defender, in the worst sense of that phrase.
Ramage was a better bowler than centre half!

Jon Gittens? (RIP)

Saved by that goal at Wolves maybe?

I wasn't going to mention him, just to defend him, but I agree with your second point.
The Wolves goal counts massively in his favour compared to some of these other duds. None of them have a bonafide all-time Boro highlight on their CV, and Gittens does. In fairness he played well during that promotion season. Seemed a good guy too.
He was out of his depth in the PL, what what had gone before should keep him well clear of this list.

Personally I never rated Simon Coleman, but maybe that was just because he was trying to replace Pally.

McManus wasn’t terrible just bang bang average at champ level

Wasn't St Leger only a loan though? Wouldn't that rule him out?

Weirdly I don't remember Saxby as being as bad as others? Not saying I rated him, but I don't recall him being a disaster either.
