I think his passing today was unusually sloppy at times but defensively he was immense. He seemed to pick up every second ball and was physically dominant - a side of his game that has come on so much!

Sharpen up the progressive passing on Wednesday and it will be great to see him strut his stuff at Wembley!

Agree but Need to keep in mind his mistakes seemed more because he put himself in positions where he was picking up the ball. he had more touches (112) than anyone else on the pitch with 90 completed passes

I commented on his sloppy passing in 2nd half, and my heart was in my mouth when he tried to dribble out of our penalty area and got caught in possession, he was very lucky to be given a free kick imho, he tried to do the same thing on his Scottish U21 debut and gave away a penalty

Mine too. I thought he was very lucky that the ref gave a foul when it didn’t look like there was much in it to me.

One teeny criticism of him is, when he's playing well, over confidence kicks in and he tries to pass through players. Just needs to keep it simple at times - but this will come with experience.

Immense today 👍

I think it's good to see him try those balls. They are not percentage balls but if they come off they can create chances and that's what I see. Too many players in that situation will choose to pass sideways or backwards but HH tries to make that killer pass. Had one of those come off we'd be raving about it so I hope he continues to try those balls.

I think sometimes he maybe tries to go for too much with his passing when it's not really on, but I can't knock the confidence to try it. Think he's already very good for us, bit more time to tighten a few things up and he'll be brilliant. Couldn't have a better coach in place for his game in particular.

The thing with people worrying when he tries to play out of his own box, yes he may lose the ball close to our goal but that’s something Carrick and the staff will have evaluated and decided the risk is worth taking. I love watching players receive the ball in tight spaces and waiting for angles, and then playing out into open space and launching an attack. We’re very good at it for the most part. In fact I think if we’d scored in the first half hour, when we were totally dominant, we’d have absolutely mullered them 3 or 4-0.

Going back to Hackney, it’s easy to remember the time(s) he lost the ball and it led to something, or came close to, but that’s because it’s our last involvement before an opposition chance or moment of danger. It’s very easy to forget the times he’ll have done that exact same thing and it’s got us out into midfield and then up and into a threatening position ourselves.

I’d much rather we were doing this and losing it 1 in every 10 times than just smashing it long towards a big lump in the other half of the pitch. Hackney is a playmaker and he’s great at it. 20 years old. You love to see it.

He always manages to drop into space to receive the ball - he was everywhere today, mainly defensively, but he does have an eye for a through ball too. Hopefully he can have more of an impact offensively on Wednesday. I’d like to see us play at higher intensity in the home leg. It was walking pace for a lot of the game today, which is understandable as the away side, but Coventry do look vulnerable when we get at them. Shame Ramsey isn’t available because him and Forrs would cause Coventry a lot of problems on both flanks

It's not the "killer" passes, and yes he has to try to make those.......in the right areas of the pitch.

There are times he doesnt seem to see the opposition player or maybe telegraphs it 🤷🏻‍♂️.

Like I say uber critical, mega picky.

That's part of what MC wants from him and the team. Take the risks with forward passes and no blame if they don't come off. He'll get better at them the more ge tries them.

I thought Hackney had one of his best games in a Boro shirt, he was everywhere and looked like a young Howson at times popping up in the right place at the right time.

The only thing that spoilt his performance for me was the Sky commentator saying how good he was - we don’t need that sort of thing, he is ours hopefully for a very long time….
