Very down.

Don... I'll level with you, I'm actually worried about next season. This year was the year to do it.

We've got excellent teams coming up from league 1 and the possibility of some genuine power houses coming down from the prem.

Some of the best performers in our side are going back to their home clubs and you've got Chuba who could be now permanently an amazing No 10 or turn out to have had the best year of his career.

I mean, we've got Luton and Coventry in the final of the playoffs for the premier league. Coventry were bottom of the league when Carrick took over.

Let. That. Sink. In.

The best is yet to come!

Remember how flat we all were after the Norwich playoff final?
We then went on to have a really exciting season, and that was as a defensive side.

With a full preseason of drilling the super michael Carrick attacking style into our existing and new signings I really think it could be one of our greatest ever second tier seasons.

We really might be like Burnley were this season and romp it.

Coventry were 22nd, 1 point below us, having played 3 games less, when Carrick took over.

They got 7 points from those 3 games when they were played, so their "true" position was 6 points above us when Carrick took over.

Semantics but yes I accept, Coventry really are one of the best teams in this league and will light up the prem if they get there /s.

I'm actually really looking forward to next season.

This season has gone, we fell short, but Carricks tenure has been nothing short of remarkable.

The recruitment - so long amateur hour at Boro - now looks like it is focused, professional and has a long term plan with Carrick buying into it.

We have the core of a very, very good squad - and I'm sure Gibson will back Carrick 100%.....unlike last summer.

We are going to be very busy in the transfer market, hopefully get some of the loans back, possibly sign a couple on permanent deals?

Yes, concern over Chuba staying/going but hope if the worst happens and he does go, plans are already in place and we get good money for him.

Personally think the future is bright 👍

It'll all work out. We'll buy a few good players who Carrick will develop, others will step up and keep improving.

We have the bones of a good side and will add to it. We play exciting football.

Let's keep the faith. Karanka took over in 2013, midway through the season and had two summers to build. Carrick is ahead of schedule if Karanka is the yardstick.

Not sure that helped 🤣

It's not semantics, is it?

They weren't bottom, and they'd played far fewer games than us.

Not sure what your next point is about, you just got something wrong and I corrected you.

That's the table from the day Carrick took over.

We outperformed Coventry in that time, they just beat us on the day, but they still picked up more points than most teams in the league.

We will see how serious our campaign will be over the closed season, with Gibson, Scott and Carrick collectively doing their thing with the moves in and out, that will show the height of ambition, as for disappointment, I have surprisingly moved on quite quickly and looking forward to the summer and a few football free weekends, fixtures will be out in a months time…😁

Absolutely brilliant season, never seen a Boro team scoring so freely. On the down side it's just really hit me this morning with it being a Saturday, that there's no more Boro matches to look forward to until August 😢.
What sort of team will we have by then?
Every faith in our recruitment team and of course Carrick that it will be one that will continue the excellent progress from this season UTB

Scoring so freely except for you know the last month and a bit of the season. 😭

Great season from Carrick’s arrival.

But you have to be honest and say a great opportunity has been missed and that tells us that when the business end of the season arrived this team or squad was not quite good enough.

So we need strengthening in the weak areas in the summer and we go again in August.

Or maybe the management isn't quite good enough, time will tell.

I'm not remotely worried. As with any season, only 3 teams can go up and it's by no means a certainty that it'll be the 3 strongest on paper.
What we have to our huge benefit is one Mr Michael Carrick. He'll be a lot wiser as to what we need to improve, how we need to adapt and what is successful. Had he been brought in preseason then I think we'd be already speculating about how we'd do in the PL.
He's clearly a great manager to play under and with football being such a tightly knit community I'm sure that word will already be out regarding how good a loan spell or a transfer to us could prove.
You only need to read Chuba's comments about him to see that players love being given the freedom to express themselves and make mistakes.
Of course, all the best laid plans can be ruined by injuries to key players or at inopportune times, but I'm pretty confident that we'll have every chance of getting a couple of superb loans in to supplement the permanent signings that we'll make.
This 'downer' we currently feel is, I think, just a lull in an upward trajectory. Even a mid table finish playing like we do would be infinitely better than many seasons we've endured recently.

I feel your pain don.

We have had a taste of wonderful attacking football, excitement, hope and positivity across the club, its fanbase and dare I say even parts of the media. Losing exciting players like Archer, Giles and Ramsey is a big body blow (for me) Mowatt and Steffen I am less concerned about, but nevertheless still leave a big hole in their respective roles. I would welcome them all back if it were achievable (although I can’t deny, a loan of Dean Henderson would be my goalie of choice) it is undeniable the part they have all played, post Carrick.

I am particularly dreading to hear if Archer and Ramsey will end up signing for other clubs, whether loan or otherwise. I have all my fingers, toes and eyes crossed that we could somehow entice Villa financially, to loan them to us again, but their development really is crying out for a PL move.

Additionally, like Boro, I too have a crisis to resolve, arguably bigger. My lucky red socks have been holed 😱 It must have happened on Wednesday too 😬 what do i do? How do I select another pair? Will they be lucky? I wonder if Keiran Scott has a database on such matters? It is a conundrum and no mistake.
