Akpom - Sheff U

Are we really? We may be a selling club, but a good businessman doesn't sell his assets at less than their real value, and despite his age Chuba is worth more than £8 million. His wage demands may have more of a bearing on whether he stays or not unless a much better bid comes in.
We sold Gibson, Tav and Spence all below what would be considered market value. The only reason is we didn’t want to risk their value dropping if they stayed but we should’ve got more for all three. It’s the same with Akpom. He will go for a lot less than we all think he’s worth.

Look at the lad at Bristol City who’s supposedly going for £25m+. Is he any better than Tav? Has he done any more than Tav had this time last year?

Surely we wouldn't give him away for £8m. To a direct (deferred for one year) rival as well? What would be the point? Just ensuring its harder and harder for us to go up if we strengthen other sides like that. £8m wouldnt go far. I think thats about what we spent on Payero and Hoppe?

Then where are they? If somebody was interested, the circumstances are absolutely perfect for another club to swoop in and get a cheap deal now.

But the two teams he's been linked with most are Luton and apparently United. *EDIT hadn't seen the WHU speculation

Time will tell. Hopefully this gets sorted and he starts with us.
Yeah but it's early days. Bigger deals tend to happen later on and then things can cascade. I'm not saying they will come in, just that I don't think sheff utd I'd a good career move necessarily, although the can offer prem football, in the short term. I'm sure it wouldn't be the move he was hoping for.

So that renowned trusted source Nixon states Akpom could be available for £8 million and it is now fact, a lot of criticism of the club here without any real evidence I can see. Am I the only one who also finds it strange we deride other clubs and question why players would want to go there when they are a yo-yo club who will also most certainly get relegated? As Boro fans that is the definition of irony

It's not really strange. We all love Boro and therefore naturally see them as more appealing than any other similar sized clubs.

Agree on the Nixon bit though, probably guesswork at the moment but very feasible

He often played on the wing when young and that doesn’t change that he had a couple of good years in Greece.

He ended up a key player in an invincible team. That doesn’t happen and be a bad player having a bad season.

You can admit that your initial point about 1 good season in his career was wrong, you are allowed to learn, re-evaluate with new evidence and grow

Such a condescending post Mart.

Rather than be that way. Can you give a clear argument? After all, he's scored 63 goals in just under 250 games. For a striker that's demonstrably average.

This isn't meant to be a dig at Chuba, per se. I want him to stay and to build on the best season he's ever had (and is very likely to ever have in his career) here with us.

But you're post is unfair

They’re only worth what someone is prepared to pay for them. That’s the market value, not what’s written in newspapers or posted online.

fee agreed but deal not happening as they have offered him £18k per week , and he is on more at Boro . ( poster on the SU board called rifleman )Still time to come to an agreement, Akpom May accept £20k per week on a 4 year contract ? Makes sense to me . You would think salary would be discussed before an offer is put in ? Makes SU look tight , or Akpom greedy . Could be bull shirt , soon see .
Bet there is a relegation clause in there though !

Lots of people saying £8 million is not enough. Easy to say that when you aren't signing the cheques to keep MFC afloat.

I'm sure Steve Gibson appreciates all this advice. All he's ever done is build a £200 million highly profitable international business.

£8m sounds like something I'd reject without even considering it but honestly we are soft as f*ck in the transfer market, seemingly always bending over backwards to be reasonable and affordable for clubs coming after our players so he probably will go for that knowing us.

Absolutely this - £8m is the difference between survival and disaster for a club like MFC. We have to bring in a big sale every season to survive - fully expect Paddy McNair will also go for for circa £3.5 to £4 million to get the £12million balancing figure that also allows a couple of loans to come in. We are on a financial tightrope that Gibson’s balances every year. That’s why failing to go up last season was such a disaster.

Lots of variables in this one. Does Chuba want to stay? How much interest is there in him?

If he wants to leave but minimal interest we'll take what we can get surely?

Comparison with Ndiaye fairly wide of the mark too. As mentioned above, younger player with more potential and higher resale value. As such 18 would be an absolute ceiling but can see it being closer to 10

Let’s be honest, no one knows the fee. It’s clear that he was always going to leave as soon as we lost the play off. He has not been injured and we have kept him away from contact training to allow a deal to go through.

We will be fine without him.

Utb.

He has been injured.

He's outright said himself that he's been injured, and he's only just got back out on the grass for light training, and spoken about how it'll be difficult to hit the ground running without a pre-season.

Whether that's here or elsewhere, I don't know, but the injury is real.
