Akpom - Sheff U

You’re saying I’ve lost the plot when you were taking about ticket sales haemorrhaging and Carrick being unhappy… you said yesterday we needed to replace 49 goals. Talking like Akpom has left. It’s weird.

It’s all if this, if that, if this is as sh*t as I suspect it will be…

You know what I feel, I feel it’s just pessimistic as f*ck. Sorry for swearing mate but I’m tired of this pessimism. The season hasn’t even started yet. Why can’t it be wow what if we go up, what if this lad hits the ground running we could make £15m to reinvest, if Carrick did this with Akpom and Hackney and Lenihan then what can he do with Coburn, Rodgers, Gilbert, Barlaser? Why can’t it be wow, I hope we have a cup run this year or I can’t wait to see how Silvera does or if another young lad can step up like Hackney did.

It’s been pessimism all week. And people are just ignoring everything Akpom and Carrick have said and just posting these absolute fantasies about fees and wages and bids and disasters and shambles and all the rest of it.

Can we not just look ahead to Millwall? We’ve got a real coach here, with a fair few really good players to enjoy. We’ve got good prospects.

Only my opinion of course. But some of the stuff I’ve seen on here this week, it’s just mad. No offence but I just think it’s mad.
This. 👍🏼

I hope Chuba stays. There was a big turnround in our fortunes after the Blackpool away game. There I felt he really connected with the fans and the fans really got behind him. But we need to realise that he depends on the service for his goals and last season he got great service. Who will supply it this season? Im not convinced yet that we have the support for him.

The year before they went up Brentford sold 2 players for fifty million. That is the Brentford model.
Signing a bloke on a big contract, then loaning him out, then having him score the most goals for the club since the 1950s, then selling him for 1 million more than we had paid for a bloke with a handful of goals in league 1 is not the Brentford model.
Hopefully this is a load of crap.

Brentford sold Watkins and bought Toney.

Thats the model we’ve been crying out for, stop wasting money and buy young, hungry players we can sell on.

Can’t believe so many are ******* their pants two days before the season starts, a month til the end of the transfer window and with one of the best young managers in England at the helm.

Brentford sold Watkins, who they bought for £1.8m, for £28m, nearly two weeks after they signed Ivan Toney for £5m, both before the season started.

Not really comparable to selling a player we signed for £3m for £8m without a replacement already there, and after the season is underway.

My take on Chuba. If we can only get £8M for him and, he won't sign a new contract, then we let his contract run down. After being so close last year with a superb coaching team we take the gamble of going up this year while Michael Carrick is here. There is a feelgood factor at the Club at the moment. Having Chuba attracts fans and other good players. If it all goes pear shaped then we can always sell in January. If he is scoring goals we still make a profit, maybe even more if big teams like Everton are at the bottom. If we are in the top six he may sign a new contract. This is a good season to gamble while Michael Carrick is here. Hopefully the Hoppe deal frees up more money to pay Chuba. We don't want another disappointment after the Giles situation. Enjoy our first striker to score 20+ goals since Bernie.. 33 years ago!

That the model is to sell If the deal is right.

That Brentford had Toney in before the sale is irrelevant unless you believe they weren’t linked.

It's entirely relevant.

They brought in a good replacement at decent expense, then sold Watkins for a club record fee.

All before the first Championship match of the season.

Currently we're being linked with virtually nobody, and we're rumoured to be selling Akpom for a pittance after the best season a Boro player has had in decades.

If Akpom is sold, we'll have played 2-3+ games already, and his replacement will probably come in after.

That's not "the Brentford model".

They got £18m for N’Diaye , I expect negotiations to be between £8m - £15m and likely meet somewhere in the middle .
N’Diaye is 23, a full international who has played at a World Cup, and someone who, had he gone at the end of 21/22, almost no blades fans would have said, as the majority were on here back then “good, I’ll drive the b***r myself” so I think we have to accept that if that’s the market benchmark, Akpom belongs at the lower end of your range.

Well I suppose we have to wait and see what the plan is. I have been happy with bulking out the squad with the signings made so far but none of the outfield players have proved themselves at any level of mens football. Hackney, Fry and Crooks extending Has also been a positive. Hopefully the new lads come good and we wont need to add as many in the future. But with so many inexperienced players you need a core of real quality if you have any aspirations of success. Therefore I am not sure of the rationale on selling Akpom for a reported £8m ( which may be way out). We have been told we need at least a left back and a centre forward. Maybe we need the funds from Akpom to sign them but by selling Akpom we also need a proper number 10 if we are playing the same way as last season. £8m is not going to fund that.

There is a definite disparity between fans and players. For us fans, it's a passion to support our local team. For the players it is a job. It's their livelyhood. And the higher ups at the club are running a business. It's totally understandable that us fans get annoyed at the prospect of loosing our favourite player, but that's business. 8m would be a good deal for boro.

Do I want that to happen? No.
Do I think he's worth more to us? Yes.
Is he worth more that 8m to another club? No

I've said it before, we've lost better players that Chuba and survived.

8m would be a good deal for boro.

Says who? If we fail to sign a replacement, or we sign an Aaron Connolly type as the replacement and then end up getting relegated will it still be a good deal?

I feel like some on here really aren't seeing the difference between an approach where every player is for sale at the right price, and every player must be sold as soon as possible for any price.

crap deal if true, and i didn't stump up for 3 season tickets thinking i wouldn't see chuba there. Gutted if he goes he is the first boro player in ages that has really got the boro fans united behind him and the club.

Pessimism is another persons fear of reality, your attitude is a cause for concern, continue sleepwalking

This is a great post.

Continue waiting for it to turn to sh*t if it makes you feel better mate. The reality is 17th to 10th to 7th to 4th in four years, without parachute payments, with a bunch of hungry young players in place and a head coach who has everyone eating out of the palm of his hand. Some of the football we play under him is the best I’ve ever seen a Boro team play. Call me whatever you like but I’m going to enjoy it.
