It seems to happen every August. It happened under Aitor, Wilder, McClaren, Mowbray, Warnock, and now Carrick.
For a long time lots of people have said Boro should be a club that develops young players and looks to sell them on. You want a young, progressive coach who wants to play football on the deck and looks to score goals. Well we have that. It will require a degree of patience and time to come good.
I’d much rather have this, the group of younger players with a young manager, than faffing about with stop-gap pensioners and dinosaurs who like getting it launched.
This board over the past couple of weeks reads exactly as it did at the start of Karanka’s two full years. One ended at Wembley, one ended in the Premier League. It’s also very, very similar to last season, when players, recruitment and staff were absolutely slaughtered and we were told the season was a write off.
Do you want a club that thinks a bit more long term or do you want changes on a whim, root and branch reform, constant upheaval and disruption? Show some patience. Let the coach get on with coaching the players. See where we are in October, November. If last season proved anything it’s that you should never write anything off, whether it be an individual player or a season.
