Thought on young Sam Greenwood

He’s another who came through the Arsenal youth system, so presumably his technique is of a high level. Is he a possible replacement for Chuba Akpom? I think Akpom surprised a lot of people with his guile, skill, technique last season.

He wasn’t ‘just’ a striker, he actually had a lot more to offer than sniffing around the box.

Can Carrick encourage Greenwood to play a similar role and unlock the lad’s potential? He was ‘hotly tipped’ at one point, whatever that means, but has lost his way a bit at Leeds. I’m looking forward to seeing him play.

Apparently really good at corners and free kicks, good technically, good finisher just not great at tracking back and getting stuck in.

I don't think we'll replace Akpom as such. He was unique in that he was dropping off, linking up play and banging them in. We're not going to replace all that, but he may become the no.10

Can't see him making much of a difference myself, but he can't be much worse than what we've seen so far this season.

Interesting choice of club from his perspective. I guess with the career he has had thus far, he would want to go to a club where he could play more or less every game. I think he will have a fair bit of competition to get a start at Boro (maybe a better chance than at Leeds but no guarantees). I guess time will tell....
Being from Sunderland, I would have thought he would be desperate to play for them. I guess they weren't in for him.

I asked my Leeds friend and his reply was

“Greenwood is one of the best set piece takers I’ve ever seen play for Leeds. Too slow and not mobile enough in midfield to ever make it at a higher level but that’s a good move. I would have kept him at Leeds and he’ll do well for Boro. Basically a pound land ward prowse”

Maybe he doesn't support Sunderland? I know if I was from there I wouldn't

Hard to say how anyone will be following a move, time to settle in, see how they slot in to our style. O’Brien looks the most promising of this weeks intake, Greenwood has attributes and it has to be a watching brief. I don’t see him starting many games but maybe gets a good few opportunities from the bench. If that is the case Carrick will need to find the right balance of minutes to give him opportunity. I can see him starting v Bradford.

The bit I’m wondering now is where does Crooks slot in when fit?
