Finn Azaz

I'd be interested in Crooks being rotated into the deeper 2 positions. His physicality could be interesting in their also more physical presence on crosses.

His tackling/passing could be a liability
I said it before and got hammered on here for it. I agree, it’s his natural and preferred position too

We may end up using Azaz deeper but from what I’ve seen he’s primarily a 10. Be interesting to see how Carrick views him.

I think Crooks will be used as more of a plan B as striker / no10 like he was for the second half last season.
Probably. He will probably think of moving on in the summer himself I’d say with all the competition around him now if Azaz signs especially

We don’t know when the cash flows from any of those deals - or how much each of them were really worth. For instance, the gazette have quoted massively different fees for each of the players you’ve mentioned.

What we do know is the club sacrificed a portion of £7.5m it was due over time for the Tav deal to get upfront cash in the summer. Not exactly something you’d do if you were a cash rich business.

I’m really just playing devils advocate - the money for this deal should be found, I’m just trying to demonstrate it’s not a black and white as people think.
So if we sign a player we need to find the full fee, but for the players we've sold we probably don't have the cash flow from them so they don't count?

You're saying we probably need to sell in order to buy, but are now accepting transfers don't really work that way (which I agree with).

Can't have it both ways.

It's not a one in one out situation, its a more complex balancing of the books. Which means we probably can spend a bit now, but in the future might need to sell. It's all an evolving picture though.

When everyone is fit we're stacked for those three attacking positions behind the 9.

Forss
Jones
Rogers
Azaz
Crookes
Greenwood
Silvera
Gilbert
McGree

Arguably too stacked actually, wouldn't be surprised if one or two of those are sold/loaned in the window if FA goes through?
He has been bought for now but they will also be thinking about next season too.

Greenwood probably won't sign on, Crooks should probably leave, Gilbert needs a lot more developing and then McGree may have a good second half of the season and might look to get a move to a higher level.

Also gives us more options to change shape like we did at Huddersfield where we went to more of a 343 but still kind of looked like the same formation at the same time.

Well I thought he was going to last summer when he was out of contract but then he signed a new one and played his way back into the first team. So who knows?

He looks like he enjoys it in Boro and he's been an important player for us this season when he's been fit.

note: they both were in the West Brom youth sides under Danksy for quite a few years, probably know each other pretty well. He's another Danksy special

Didnt realise that.

No harm in former teammates linking back up, hopefully have a little bit of understanding of each others game already to help the bedding in process.

When I’ve seen him he’s a 10 but I’m thinking we may use him deeper to be honest. We will see
Plymouth rarely play a 10, he generally plays a bit deeper as 1 of a midfield 3, he is of course posting number 10 type figures and can play there.

probably only played a handful of game together as Azaz is one school year older than Rogers, but almost 2 years older. But they will know each other because they overlapped for about 8 or 9 years at West Brom

Hopefully suit our style. Plymouth play a pretty attacking/front foot style of football. Score lots of goals and let lots in too. Sound familiar!

That’s why I said I was playing devils advocate. None of us knows how much of any incoming or outgoing fees are upfront or in instalments - so you can’t necessarily assume one the other.

It’s exactly complex, but none of us have enough information to know what the club can afford in cash or on the books. For all we know Villa are demanding full fee upfront, but we’re actually not due any money from Tav, Spence or Akpom until the summer - however unlikely that may be.

Same with Alex Gilbert, though I suspect he'll be getting loaned out to League One.

If Azaz is signed in time, you would think he would play this Saturday. Will get an early idea of where Carrick views him fitting in
