Villa bid for Morgan Rogers

Why wouldn’t you keep a bloke who improves your squad, is a regular starter and scores and sets up goals? Would be madness not to include him staying here for the remainder of the season as part if the deal . He will be desperate to impress his new bosses and it is really narrow minded to suggest we bin him off because he won’t get a Boro tattoo on his chest.
I think there is a greater chance that he goes through the motions knowing it doesn't matter a toss to him.

But what’s motivating him there the question do you really think he’ll have the and hunger attitude.
Yes - he is a professional footballer and nobody has questioned his attitude or motivation so far. You don’t become a bad player because you have ambition

I don't think there's a player in the world who wouldn't be interested in moving from a mid table championship club, to a much bigger premier league club challenging for a champions league place. Especially if it's a club local to you, that you supported growing up.
It's very naive to think otherwise, and harsh to suggest he's a wrong un for being interested. No sign of a bad attitude yesterday, not his best game and not everything came off, but no lack of effort and set up our goal with a great piece of skill.
I'd have him back he's already our most creative player.
We have to be realistic. He has the chance to play at higher level, more money and possibly closer to significant people in his life I would be surprised if he isn’t interested in joining Villa possibly in the Champions league next year.

He has done okay for us but he has not set the world alight. If Villa loan him back to us and we get circa £10 million that will be great business in my eyes.

The club management will have an assessment of him as a person and if they want him for the rest of the season I will go with their judgement.

Bingo there your answer

If he wanted to play at a high level why didn’t he stay at Man City ???

It’s about cold hard cash

People move jobs all the time for more money, why should footballers be any different ?

We have signed players who wanted to come here for more money. Villa are a much bigger club than us and I can understand why he would want a move there. Personally I don’t think he’s good enough to play regularly for a top premier league club but we will see.

Loan back would be a bad deal. He's not that good a player that he would even be guaranteed to start for us now. He is still "potential". We don't need to be developing someone else's player for the 2nd half of the season when we could be developing our next project.

Loans should only be for players that will seriously improve us or like Ayling and are there to fill a gap temporarily.

Because he wasn’t going to be playing for them? If Cole Palmer wasn’t able to get regular playing time there how was he going to.

Confused that you’re spinning it as a negative that he left a club like City to take a step down in order to play regularly and almost certainly not for more money than he was on at City.

At the moment we do have a gap - with LL injured and Coburn only partially fit, Gilbert and Kavanagh are not ready for the Championship. If the Club go out and buy a ready replacement forward its fine to replace Rogers, but is that realistic.

It’s not our so called method anymore to be reliant on loans so if we have sold x player for x amount then that should be reinvested in the squad. Not loan/develop a player who come the summer won’t be our player anymore.

The last

I agree with that in principle, but being pragmatic he's been far and away out most creative player. Head and shoulders above anyone else in our squad when it comes to chances created, and the most assists. I think we need him for the rest of this season and I've seen nothing to suggest he wouldn't be fully motivated. He would know Villa will be watching he's going to want to continue to impress them.
Anyway we'll see what happens!

Isn't it just the perspective you take?

Is "Loan Back" significantly different from "we'll sell him to you at the end of the season"?

Yes. If he scores 20 goals he'll be worth a lot more than we can get him for now. Villa get that appreciation, not us.

When we loaned Archer and Ramsey last season their valuation was a lot lower when we signed them compared to when we sent them back.

Has there been any indication to how much the third and significantly improved bid was?
Seems concerning that it was very quickly reported that the first two offers were quickly rejected, but the only reports I've seen are the odd journalist saying they have heard nothing about a 3rd bid. The journalists reporting a 3rd bid seem to have gone quiet. I'd say that either means a bid hasn't actually been made yet, or the clubs are talking with a view to reaching an agreement. It seems inevitable to me that he will be sold this month, but as a club we should be doing everything we can to ensure he is available for tomorrow. After tomorrow we have a maximum of 2 games before McGree and Silvera are definitely back, plus Greenwood and Azaz are obviously not cup tied. No Rogers or Jones tomorrow could be terminal.

If Australia win the final on the 10th, I'd be slightly surprised if they were playing for us on the 14th.

Could be wrong, McGree returned quicker than I thought when they were knocked out by Argentina, but the final of a competition is a bigger deal.
Surely some function parade in oz if they go all the way as well

If they offer a loan back for the season it will be entirely Carrick’s call as to whether he thinks this is a good idea or not. He will also decide, because he knows him better than us whether Rogers has the integrity and professionalism to still put a shift in wearing a Boro shirt (like Archer, Ramsey and Giles did last season), knowing that at the end of the season he will be heading off to another club. I will leave that call to the manager
