Red Faction - walking out on 30th minute

If I was SG, I would leave the club, walk away as the best and most successful chairman in our history and pay off the remaining debt.

After giving so much time and money why anyone wants the headache, the abuse and accusations of ripping people off, i'll never know.

Give the club to the fans debt free, they know best how to run a club, then see how much your season tickets really costs.

Are you going to answer the question?
I don’t think it’s greed, personally, I just think Gibson always had a limit regarding how much he was willing to put into the club and (whilst I know he still puts plenty in) he also believes that the fans should cough up as much as they can afford.

Not saying it’s right, just saying I think that’s his philosophy. It’s only greed in so far as he’s asking us all to pay as much as we can realistically put in. He probably does the same himself.

Fill the ground , by charging affordable prices to the people of our area .Incentives like Adult child joint ticket in selected areas.
Any un sold tickets by 10am match day , sell for a reduced price.
I think there’s a big flaw with that idea. No one would buy until 11am on matchday! Not a great strategy when we’re on a losing run, on Sky Sports and it’s raining!

The easiest way to fill a football ground is with results. But even that’s easier said than done.

I would absolutely never question Gibson for what he’s done for this club. But do I think that the most expensive tickets in the championship and more than most in the Premiership is him asking to give as much as he does? No. I think it’s him exploiting what he knows is a loyal fan base who will grumble, but ultimately renew anyway.

I agree but I don’t think “greed” is the word I’d use.

Of course he’s exploiting us, he’s a ruthless, commercially minded, successful business fella. He didn’t get rich through philanthropy.

The Twisted Lip has become a Boro institution, a well loved pub in the centre of town, probably even claims to be a “community pub”. But they’ll still charge you £7 a pint if they can get away with it.

Plus, no one seems to be talking about this but there was an article in the Gazette which claimed there’s a Championship club who’ve done some analysis on their matchday costs and worked out that it would be cheaper for them to pay fans to stay away! I’m sure I read this. But I’ve not seen it discussed anywhere on this board.

We need to attract the maybe people , the Friday night banter in the pub , talking football , sod it it's only £15 on the day .
Better getting £15 x 5,000 than £28 x 1,500.
And they spend when they come .
Work it out .
Worth a trial ?

GIbson is only allowed to pay in as much as he is presently paying by FFP - it wouldn't matter if we had 10 people on the board they would not be able to put extra into the club.
You say greed but he would say to you that he pays £50k a day into the Boro. And the books are open for us to check this.

There is a massive shortfall between our ticket money and the costs of running a stadium and football club and that is without the player transfers. Gibson is plugging this day in day out, year in year out.
Commercially we are operating at record levels of over £6 m - that is some going for a Championship club in the north east of England.
He is saying show me how we can close the gap. I know some fans say they don't care in which league we play but come on we all want to be challenging at the top of this division at least. We all were excited at beating Leicester. We were disappointed not to sign a striker and yet obviously we want to pay less as fans. We want walk ups to be lower. Obviously. But how on earth do we bring the extra money in needed to compete at this level. We might hate agents and paying high wages but there is no way around it.

It is all very difficult indeed - but it isn't greed. Remember Gibson pays £50k a day into Boro.

I don't know what the answer is because football finances are crazy and getting crazier by the season.

Sunderland - I believe it could be. I know we have compared ourselves to their pricing many times over the years but it appears they may have made a massive error. Could be perfect for a fly on the wall tv documentary series.... ;)

I didn’t say greed Rob, I was saying the opposite.

You say football finances are crazy but you yourself can afford 6 matches a month. You are defending Gibson but you’re the first to criticise away prices. Not knocking you for that, but people like you, and a slightly lesser extent me, are easy pickings for football clubs. We’re addicts. We go to almost every match we possibly can.

The whole sport is getting more and more (and more) expensive, but so are lots of things in society in general.

The main gripe people have, I think, is that we now seem to be the most expensive club in the league, just as we’re about to embark on our 8th consecutive season in the second tier, for the first time in 50 years. The club is at a big crossroads in my opinion, a sort of watershed moment.

“Walkouts” could well just be the start of something, and I think Gibson knows that, hence why he’s trying to put the fire out before Saturday comes.

Well said as always , I have been going for 50 year but am questioning renewing due to price rises and lack of ambition.
Selling Rogers and Crooks , I have no problem with , because it favours everyone, but not bringing in an option , even as a free agent sends a sign that we are going through the motions .
