Theresa May stepping down at the next GE

I was never a fan of her, but when you consider what came afterwards... She was a decent Home Secretary and was dealt a bad hand when picking up the Brexit shambles from Cameron; then having to deal with the likes of BoJo looking to sabotage her at every opportunity. She went up in my left leaning estimations with her constant and articulate criticism of the subsequent administrations who have made UK politics seem like an episode of Midsomer Murders on a good day and the first day at nursery on a bad day.

She will soon be able to fantasize about Geoffrey Boycott and trespass on farmers fields to her hearts content.

she was the last old skool tory pm - principled, honest & a decent human being.

Oh yeah, I remember her principled, honest and decent stances on the ‘hostile environment’, denouncing the Human Rights Act, wanting Ofcom to vet TV programmes before they were broadcast (basically state censorship) and getting fully behind the ‘Snoopers Charter’ before it was gotten rid of.

What I do actually remember is images in my head of her running through a field of wheat.

She was dreadful as PM during the Brexit years and led to Johnson rearing his ugly head.

Good riddance.

But remember, she was still responsible for the "Go Home Vans" driving around politely asking immigrants to leave the UK.......so let's not put her on a path to sainthood just yet.
Wasn't she also the main architect of the hard brexit we are enduring with her 'red lines' on freedom of movement which led to access to the SM and CU not being possible?

I might have this wrong.

May as Home Secretary

Without getting into arguments, these are not the actions of a decent person.

The 'hostile environment' policy caused harm and offence to many people, often without any cause. And, of course, fed into the Windrush scandal.
Beat me to it.

She was better than her successors, but so what? We should be able to do better than thinking someone was decent just because at least they weren't national front tribute acts.

The tories before Johnson were still a disgrace. The fact they've managed to sink even lower since then doesn't change that fact.

May was pretty inept as PM. Compared to the three imbeciles that followed she looks like JFK, but then so would most people.

i'm no fan of her policies, or some of her rhetric but she's the least bat-**** and least reliant on culture wars of any MP since Brown. That is a pretty low bar to clear mind.

She's probably the least evil female PM we've ever had too. I still despise her policies though. I think she wants out because she sees how racist the Tory party has become and doesn't fancy continuing the culture wars from the back benches of the opposition.

Yeah kind of. I don't think she really wanted those red lines but didn't have the guts or influence to face down the hard-core lunatic fringe in her party.

She tried keeping everyone happy and it was an impossible task. Johnson solved that problem by not giving a **** what others thought and kicking those who opposed his bonkers brexit out of the party.
