Shocking scenes in Bristol tonight

People are conditioned to condemn protesters these days. There will always be bad actors in any protest but genuinely this new bill is a travesty and we should be protesting it. Its the biggest attack on civil liberty in a generation and the so called right 'bastions of freedom and free speach' should be protesting with them. Instead most of the Tory supporters are defending the government and attacking the protesters.

Nobody mentioned Brexit until you did! If that's not trying to stir things up I don't know what is.

You need to read up on what people are protesting against. This Government is trying to introduce a Police and Crime Bill which seeks to restrict gatherings and peaceful protest. Are you happy with the Government you voted for?
So I can mention that is usually what happens in these threads, yet someone can start a thread with typical Brexiteers & that's fine

People do have the right to vote, but these people who start the violence are out & out thugs, nothing more

And to your question, there are parts of the Tory government that have been done very badly

Parts!

Vaccine aside what else have the Tories achieved in the last 10/years?

They have failed by every metric they set themselves.

Deficit - up
Debt - record levels
Poverty - up
Child poverty - up
Social programmes - destroyed
Wealth gap - getting higher every year.
Covid - 150000 dead and donors pockets lined.
Brexit - border in Irish sea, trade with EU harder - companies moving to Europe or closing down - no extra money for
NHS - an effective paycut for nurses after a pandemic - underfunded and being sold off bit by bit.

What have they succeded at? Financially, socially, and politically they have been a disaster.

Brexit has got nothing to do with this but you keep whining on about it. Do you have any idea what this Bill means? Are you willing to condemn the protesters regardless without considering the implications on democracy? Like I said, wind your neck in and stop deflecting.

Bristolians seem to be the France of England. With the Colston statue and this. They turn out and show the government how they feel.
I often have a sense of respect for the French when they protest, the government there often backtrack after such things.

because the extremities of the party are authoritarian, and social justice and equality, and human rights are of little concern to those types. Sometimes, the general populace see through it.

Those types you describe don't necessarily need a march to cause bother, so why attach themselves to this march?
they will attach themselves to anything. extinction rebellion , BLM , anti covid , gloobal warming , women protesting against men. If its anti anything they will appear -why ?

Because they like it it. Simple as that. They just fekkin enjoy it. Simple as.

Yeah they travel all over the country to protest against gloobal warming.

I do wonder if some of you on here remember 1981 and the riots in Brixton, Toxteth and Moss Side. The Scarman report recognised that the riots did represent the result of social problems such as poverty and deprivation.

Have a guess who was in power then.
And it was all so good in 1979 wasn't it ? And who was in power then ?

Or maybe they just care!?

Just because you are apathetic to civil causes doesn't mean others are and to label them in this way is flat out wrong.

some progressives will attach themselves to all those things, doesn't mean they are violent, as the ast majority are not. The difference say with this action in Bristol and BLM is chalk and cheese. BLM had 100s of times more people and one minor flair up outside Downing St. This seems a loot more aggressive and agitated. A very different crowd.

Did you say the same when Thatcher demonised football fans, as violent racist thugs who can't behave themselves so need to all be behind fences? Did you think that maybe it was a small section of football fans that were violent, and that it wasn't football that was the underlying cause but the lack of opportunity they faced? Same here, most people in support of BLM, and green causes, and against authoritarian laws are not violent, and their message and right to vote shouldn't be diminished, just as our right to watch football shouldn't have been impacted the way it was.
