Just been to see the new Bond movie. Obviously no spoilers, but.... that was not a Bond. Once again, modern Hollywood destroys a classic film series. If they can't do it properly, why bother do it at all?

That’s true. I think On Her Majesty’s Secret Service was closest to the book. And no coincidence to say it was the one I most enjoy. You can count on one hand the amount of bond films that are strictly faithful to the Bond cannon.
I didn't necessarily mean being faithful to the books, but the movies have had a successful 'formula' for 50 odd years. I thought by and large (Quantum of Solace excepted) the Daniel Craig films have been very good - Casino Royale especially. This one though... nope, didn't work for me. Maybe James Bond just isn't relevant in the modern world anymore? You can count on one hand the amount of bond films that are strictly faithful to the Bond cannon.
That'll appeal to all these 'furries' you keep hearing about
Too late, it would appear
I’m not aware of “Bond, downhill from there”. Was it good? The last good Bond film was in 1965. Downhill from there . . .
Hot Tub Time Machine would maybe suffice.Because it's a franchise and people will only go to see things they've heard of. If you wanted to make a new movie about a time travelling squirrel you would have to make it as a bond film, or an avengers film or something to do with Harry potter or star wars.
Was that the one where he wore the ski suit with yellow piping?I’m not aware of “Bond, downhill from there”. Was it good?
Again a good excuse to show this. Was that the one where he wore the ski suit with yellow piping?
Skyfall is by far my favourite Bond film and a great film in its own right.I don't trust the critics one iota when it comes to Bond films. The British media tend to big them up regardless, they treat them as an institution.
I know I'm in a minority (albeit quite a large one I think) but I thought Skyfall was mediocre at best. Nonsensical plot, lots of holes, ending up with a bizarre home alone remake at the end. The continuity was off too. He'd jumped from rookie to "past it" in the space of two films.
Yet the critics still rave about it.

I think it actually rejuvenated the genre too, largely thanks to Sam Mendes who gave it a fresh (and hilariously british) feel.
Just goes to show these things can be very subjective.
