Djed Spence deleted anything Boro related

Fair enough.

I'm not, I hope we sell him for £20m and he flops massively.

Barring sell-on clauses, there's no benefit to us for a player who's caused issues here to go on and succeed, but there's plenty of schadenfreude to be had.

If the likes of Tavernier leave, I'll be quite happy to see them succeed and thrive at the highest level, because even when they've struggled on the pitch, I've never questioned their effort or attitude and they've clearly played for the shirt.
Sorry, replied before reading your post.
I just think it’s easy to forget that some of these players are just kids, quite often kids who’ve been insulated from a lot of the harsh realities.
I don’t wish him any Ill will. You make a good point re. sell on clause.

You're definitely right on that, as annoying as I've found his behaviour, he was barely an adult for most of the time when he played for us.

Isaiah Jones, who I've loved here, basically admitted in that recent podcast that he had attitude issues himself a few years ago at non-league level, and he's two years older than Spence

Jones has clearly grown up a bit since then, and I wouldn't trade him for another player in the league.

Buying club come back with a reduced offer, knowing the club are hoping to buy 3, 4 players with the Spence money

Contact Spenes agent to tell Spence to kick up a bit of a fuss to "hopefully/fingers crossed" force Boro's hand to taken the reduced offer & get rid of bad rubbish

Enter Gibbo whose seen it all all before & wil drag Spence back screaming & shouting into CW's 1at team

Gibbo wont fall for their gamesmanship

UTMB
part of the plan is the removal of anything Boro from his social media .... remember we are still paying his wages

Stick him in the reserves for the rest of his contract
As a highly vindictive person, I was thinking this too :D. The ideal scenario would be for Gibbo to win 20 mil (ideally more) on the lottery, tell Spence he no longer needed to sell and that if he wanted away he had to post 'Boro till I die' type social media content every day until we felt his penance was done - maybe get fans to vote on this. Obviously a tattoo would be even better but while we're still bound to human rights legislation it's probably not gonna be possible...

I'm not sure that's true. We had 6m under FFP last season and we got 3m off Mel Morris and another mill for Spence/Forest promotion. That gives us about 10m. I would suspect Wood was 1-2 m also.
Mart, I normally find myself agreeing with a lot you say. However Wood £1- 2 million? If we got £500k to me that would be the maximum. The lad has an enormous amount on to prove he can succeed in the mans game. A free transfer is not beyond the bounds of possibility

Of course he has a lot to prove, but he's been through every england level, still young, has a little bit of first team experience. Was he pushed out for pennies, or was this Swansea giving us a good offer for a hot prospect? Their manager knows him, knows him from England youth squads, so is well aware of his capability. It might be 500k with add-ons up to 1 or 2m, probably more likely than a straight 1m, but personally I won't be surprised for add-ons to come through on this one and start adding up. This is one of those we might never find out.

I'm a bit dissapointed we let him go, but can understand why. His confidence is gone, the clubs expectations in him have dropped, but, deep down, he's a good athlete, a good size for a CB, poised on the ball, he'll do well once he breaks in and gets some experience at Swansea.

If Spence had been on loan to us from Forest and fired us to Promotion, we'd be having a good old chuckle wouldn't we if Forest fans were moaning about him not referencing them on social media?

Ultimately he's a young lad and yes he has made mistakes, but he's had a hell of a season at Forest and earned his move. In my opinion it raises more questions about why on earth we couldn't get the same performances out of him? Fair play to Cooper and Spence.

Apart from free transfers we won’t be signing many without the Spence money. Spurs will be well aware of this. The longer they hold on the more desperate we will be to sell

You can’t really say spurs aren’t a big club
I'd assume we would have been spending ~10m anyway, without the Spence money, which is about what we usually spend?

Of course, Covid and the economy will reign in spending, but players will still want to move, and clubs still need to change their squads, so we may get in for 5m, what may have cost us 10m two seasons ago etc.

so pre-season starts on Monday...presumably Djed will be back at Rockcliffe then?

I imagine anyone who has been on international duty would probably get extra time off.

Then again the official website says:
The squad is set to be bolstered by the return of more first team faces next week, including Paddy McNair, Caolan Boyd-Munce and Riley McGree following their international duty over the summer.

Needs to be back (unless the club have told him to stay away) until any deal is over the line .... could be a tricky HR issue looming

He’s contracted to Boro and we are paying his wages. Until another club signs him then he reports to Rockliffe like any other player and gives 100%.

I think he’ll be sold before he’s expected back though, and he no doubt knows that, hence why he’s behaving like a spoilt kid.

I can’t see Spence setting foot in either Hurworth or the Riverside being blunt. The way Spurs are behaving does little credit to them. They apparently want the guy yet haven’t bid for him. Their interest expressed and Spence’s comments that it is his desired option appears to have frightened off other suitors. Boro should actively get interest in him from elsewhere.

Spurs have got on with their recruitment elsewhere so I would tell them they have a week to firm up their interest with a bid on they can jog on.

Time to offer Levy a bit of his own medicine.

Forest have admitted defeat with Spence and are looking elsewhere, which suggests that Spence has told them he won’t sign for them and knows he’s going to Spurs. I guess it’s just a case of when, and I agree he won’t be back at Boro so hopefully it’ll be sorted soon. Spurs are clearly trying it on though.

I’d have him back training thinking it might push any potential transfer through quicker but it would probably be declined by Spense and sour things even more and ultimately make spurs think they have the upper hand for a cheap deal .

It can't be declined by Spence. He's contracted to Middlesbrough.
