In theory, a Djed Spence Scenario

We either sell him for true value, or we play him.
You don't mess about benching him to teach him "lessons" he won't remotely be interested in.
His value would only go down.

If his true value is £15m for example, and we end up keeping him it means having him or Jones on the bench, which would be an extreme waste of resources, we would be better served taking £10m an investing it where needed, i.e someone who is going to play. If he or Jones aren't playing then they or one of them is likely going to decrease in value (or not increase) so we lose anyway.

If we don't spend on strikers and a keeper we're not going up, which would cost us waaaaay more than that £5m we "lose" from getting true value.

I think £10m is enough, but seemingly we want £20m, so if we can take £15m now then the way I see it, is we're £5m up, and have time to spend that £15m which is the most important thing.

If we end up keeping Spence for another 6 months or year, then it could delay the promotion push for a year, and I think this year is a great opportunity with the crap which has just come down.

I would think different of it, if he wasn't a RWB, which is currently occupied by our best player (or likely to be this year). So, if Spence's value at £15-20m is actually true value, then we're effectively benching 1st or 2nd best player every week, which is a luxury we can't afford.

Spurs have ****ed us over really by agreeing a deal with Spence it means other clubs haven't bid which could have been their intention.
Isn't that just normal transfer dealings Spence wants to goto to spurs and his agent is just trying to get him there. Spurs have all the financial muscle and they know we need the transfer completed to fund our key summer signings

Yes, Spence is far better than anyone else we have in the squad, would be madness not to play him

He won’t be loaned not a chance at all, that would be the equivalent of waving a white flag and saying we will take any offer for him in Jan or next summer. He will be integrated into the squad at the start of the season if he’s not sold, the club will make it look like we are happy for him to stay so as to maximise revenue potential before the window closes and or for selling him in January.
He won't play for us again I am absolutely certain of that

Spence is far better for me, Jones has looked great at times but has nowhere near the consistency of Spence
It’s unfair to say that. Spence has played in previous championship seasons and the reason he was let go last season was due to inconsistency and off the pitch attitude. That was Jones first season at this level and to put up the numbers he did showed a great level of consistency for a large part of the season.

We should be focusing on Jones strengths now and making him better.

All I care about Spence is him leaving as soon as possible and making the football club a lot of money.

Most games I've seen Spence (for Forest) he's gone missing, or been outshone by some of their other players. I like many took a keen interest once Forest started doing better, and the Spence hype increased.
I think he just gets hyped because of the cup run, which to me, looking at it objectively he didn't look that great in, not 15m great anyway. I think a lot of it is he stands out a mile on TV with the gangly frame/ dreadlocks etc. Most games I saw him for Boro it looked like he had some talent, but zero interest. Obviously Spurs have scouted him, and will have been more objective than the commentators, and seem to think 10-15m is more a fair price, rather than the hyped up price, which I think is fair enough.

Jones was great last year when Wilder came in, but clearly got tired/ knocks and just had to battle through as he was the only one creating anything, that's going to take it's toll, but he was still good towards the end and Spence was no better. Also, after 5-10 games or so of Wilder, teams set up to stifle Jones, as they knew we had little else, and were not going to attack from the other side.

Put Jones in a side which has more threats, and he can play a normal game, and you'll get a higher level out of him. Having Giles on the other side is really going to free up Jones this year, if it doesn't it means Giles will likely have more space or the middle of the pitch will be wide open, so it will be better for us, and make us less predicatble.

Based on last season though you would take Spence in your side any day over Jones, which is why he is going to the premier league

Would I? I think I have been pretty consistent that I wouldn’t. Jones could be worth a very similar amount if he has a good season next season and he should be better really as he has learned the position now and as another poster mentioned above we will have an attacking outlet down the left now which will make us less predictable and give Jones more space.

Most wouldn’t, Jones created alot more than Spence, other than the last 7-8 games of the season Jones was superior. Spence lacks end product Jones doesn’t.

Based on last season, I wouldn't.
What? Spence was fantastic last season which is why a champions league club is signing him. Jones looked very good at times but went completely missing for a fair proportion of the season

Jones was our only player that we relied on for any creativity, expect his stats will be much better but that doesn’t really tell the full story

Jones has much better end product than Spence. for the first 3/4 of the season Jones was fantastic, he combines dribbling ability with a killer final ball, not many players have both; Spence for example does not.

We desperately need Jones to get back to that form but I would have him every day of the week ahead of Spence.

I only watched 6 of Forest's games last season, obviously excluding the ones against us, Spence was anonymous in 5 of them, including all 3 play-off matches.

There's only really the Arsenal match in the cup where I was impressed by him.

Brennan Johnson was the main creativity for Forest.

But Jones was the architect of most of our goals last season, and would have been involved in even more if our strikers weren't allergic to scoring.

Jones was involved in more goal contributions last season than Spence has managed in his entire senior career.
