So gut feeling - which strikers will we get?

No chance we're spending more than £12m this window. Gibson's been bankrolling the club every summer for years, he'll see it as a "finally the club can spend its own money" situation, and rightly so.
The club will always leak money outside the PL and without PP’s.

Gibson’s only chance of breaking his expensive death spiral is to get back up.
He won’t do that fannying around when we have the scope to spend and get up.
He has the FFP scope to spend well beyond the Spence fee. Would he rather play safe, lose money and stay down, or have a go now, lose money and go up.
He can always sell one or two if it does not work.

Gibson has worked very hard to get back into a position to have a go at the right time. I will be stunned if he gets his timing wrong again.

Forss is not even a goalscorer. Avoid.

Based on his 1 goal contribution every 159 mins for Brentford in their promotion season? or his 1 goal contribution every 104 minutes for Hull?

If we can utilise him as an impact sub (like Brentford did - similar to how we use Watmore), he's secretly one of the best in the division ;)

I think it'll just be Muniz and Armstrong (Muniz for definite, then another who im guessing will be Armstrong but alot of clubs fans seem to think he's signing for them if you look on social media!)
I think CW is going to give Akpom a chance, until January anyway
Then Watmore, Coburn and Kavanagh too

Muniz, Armstrong, Watmore, Akpom, Coburn (and Kavanagh in the U23) - Re-assess in January

The club obviously see something in him and he's still relatively young.

Gyorkores had flattered to deceive on the Championship and until last season had done nothing, so I guess we're trying to get ahead of the curve with Forss, which I don't fall out of line with.

Gyokeres is developing all the time and will only get better
I would love us to get him as our big signing as well as Muniz and Armstrong
If we do then the league is sown up

How can you be sure of that? He's had one good season in the championship... He only scored 3 in 30 the season before, and they value him at £15m.
He's a massive risk, and one we've took (and failed with) too many times in the past... Britt, Gestede, Rhodes.

Forss is the man for us. He's an impact sub, fits perfectly into how CW wants to play, and will work with Muniz and Armstrong as our starting two.

Brentford don’t just sign players on a whim, they use their model to identify players that will be able to play a certain way. He‘s definitely got something about him, especially at Championship level, and for me I think he’d be a good signing.

Or until we bring in forwards this window, at which point he'll go I suspect.
Bottom line is we're almost certainly going to be short of forwards for at least one match, probably a few so needs must.

For all that he's been a flop, he's far more experienced than anyone else we have in that position and should fit the style of play (better than Ikpeazu does who would be the other option).

I think he can do a job for us. Don't expect him to score loads (or any) but he'll help us keep our shape, has a bit of pace so should be able to press effectively and his off the ball movement isn't bad.

If he does play I'm certain he'll look a lot better than he did under Warnock. But we're obviously after a lot better. Unless he surprises everyone and tears it up, agree he'll be off once our signings are over the line. Good opportunity for him though.

I think we're really scraping the barrel if we have to use Akpom this season. I know we're short on forwards... but how many chances does this guy need?

Failed at Brentford, failed at Coventry, failed at Brighton, failed at Hull, failed at Forest, failed at Boro... If he wasn't "ex-Arsenal" he'd be playing for Hartlepool.

Surely we can throw £1 million at a League 1 club and find someone better than Akpom.

I suppose the other side of that coin is if they're selling him, and not for the usual bumper fee, they don't think he fits that model.

But I'm open minded about it and we sometimes have to take risks to
avoid fiascos like Britt

There's a huge difference in required ability from where Brentford want to be (top 10 PL) and the championship, so I'd assume Forss is deemed "not good enough".

However, "not good enough" for top 10 PL definitely doesn't mean he's not good enough for us.

He's my #1 choice. I'd prefer to permanently sign a 23 year old on relatively low wages for £5-8 million with potential sell on value. Worst case, even if he flops we can still sell him for a few mill...

Britt cost £15 million and probably another £5+ million in wages. Gyokeres could end up being a similar signing (Cov wanted £12m).

Ash - did you watch him at the Riverside last season?

I'm a season ticket holder so yeah I did. I also watch a lot of championship highlights and there's no doubting Gyokeres had a fantastic season. He also scored and assisted when they beat us 2-0 away too.

But Coventry want £12m+ for him... We've made the mistake too many times. If we sign him and he doesn't repeat the performances, it's taking another step back.

We've got a great squad everywhere else on the field. Armstrong + Muniz in on loan as our front 2, and then Forss Watmore Coburn as impact subs is the safest option. All 5 can score goals.

I would hope our scouting is much more complex and in depth these days now Scott is involved. I'd be quite interested in reading more about it, but they probably can't say too much for fear of giving any edge they think they have away.

If we went and paid, say £12m for Gyokeres I'd really hope (and expect) it was based on much than just his goals and how well he played against us. They'll be looking at all sorts: duals won, xg, touches in the box and stuff most fans might not even know exists. And I'm sure they'll be looking at those stats for the previous season too and trying to work out why he only scored 3.

Has he improved massively? Has his team improved? Or was he just luckier last year and the goal tally is a little bit of a statistical outlier based on what all his other stats say?

Does the data suggest he will continue the form he had last year?

Can you find another striker with similar stats/strengths but who maybe didn't score quite as many, and how much would they cost in comparison?

I'm sure all things that'll be taken into account. If we do decide to splash out, I'd be fairly confident it would be because we've done a lot of research into the player.

Good points well made festa and Ash
