Free Agent, Ex Norwich.. this guy has Keiran Scott written all over him. He's a tidy player and for what its worth.. we were offered his services back in 2016 at 25yo!

Great shout from the TheYorkshireTerrier on Tom Rogic btw

7 Lukas Rupp
10 Tom Rogic

It's not Xeka and Juan Mata.. but at least we can see it happening.

Danny Drinkwater would be ideal to compete with Jonny Howson and maybe push Matt Crooks upfront lol!!!

Push Crooks onto the bench.

Biggest issue with Drinkwater is if he can stay sober long enough to be useful.

Whats Keiran Scott done so far to justify us bringing someone in on the back of his recommendations?

From £35 m to free agent no club in just over 4 years

Would they be fit enough & desire to walk in to our team though, if not, then how long, would they have?
Thete must be a reason they have no clubs, would we be deemed of no interest, then ok ive got nothing else coming in,

I think we are going through a major restructuring of the club, Rome wasn't built in a day, things take time.
We moan about previous regimes, if we are adopting a more sustainable model it's just not going to happen overnight.
Let's stick with it and cheer the lads unto victory tonight.
C'mon Boro

I agree. We're putting the pieces together bit by bit. The two young strikers we bought, along with Coburn, are in place now. They're the long term. Muniz aside hopefully we won't be relying on loanees up top anymore. We've got the makings of a good defense too (despite the goals against us this season so far, but I think that stems from our weak as p!ss midfield). I think he'll work on that midfield during the next window, or next summer.

I have the feeling this year we'll be playing catch up... maybe we'll have another to 10 finish. Top 2 miles off, top 6 no chance. This isn't going to be a promotion-pushing season imo.

Hopefully this time next year we'll have the makings of a very strong squad if he gets the midfielders in we desperately need.

If we were doing that we wouldn't be so heavy with the loans. We're going to have to replace 4 1st team players next season even if we're still in the Championship. That's before you have to replace any players that leave, or any players that aren't good enough. We've practically got a full rebuild to do already. The low and slow sustainable model doesn't rely on loans, it relies on development and you can't do that if you have loan players taking the spots. Roberts looks like a good keeper but aside from the odd injury we're going to be developing Man City's reserve keeper so they can get a bigger profit when they sell him on in the future instead. Fulham's striker might get 20 goals and a hefty price tag so we can't afford him. Giles is an assist machine, we'll never be able to afford him but Wolves will benefit from him improving his defensive side.

The idea of being sustainable is sound but we're not doing that. We've tried to spend big and missed out on targets, we've completely ignored our DM position, which we tried to recruit to last year (Siliki) so we know it is a weakness. If you are being sustainable then you sign players permanently, give them a chance and allow them to develop. We haven't got a squad, or made signings, that suggests long term sustainability. We've signed a CB to replace Fry who was developing well and we could've made a decent profit on. Not playing him means his value will go down. That's the opposite of what the process is supposed to be. We've signed short term loans etc. None of that is long-term thinking.

The major factor at the moment though is Wilder is not a manager who develops players. He doesn't trust young players. I have a friend who's son played for him at Sheff Utd and, similar to what we've heard from him about the youth not being ready yet, said there will be no youth development while Wilder is in charge. He prefers experienced players. He also said Payero wouldn't last long because he prefers players that have experience of the league they are playing in (and especially wants players that speak the language fluently). Obviously if a player is good enough and impresses they'll get a chance but the default when a player is injured isn't to promote the best youth player but to move an experienced player from another position to cover.

The Club needs promotion, desperately.
Gibson had the best chance this season, brought in £22.5m to reinvest, has a manager with experience of getting up and a fanbase bought in.
He has chosen instead to follow the lead of Kieran Scott who is clearly pulling the strings, yet without the responsibility of managing the team and for results. I'm not sure what about his history justifies that.

I question this gradual sustainable rebuild concept in the Championship, with contracts as short term as they are in the Championship. You can't gradually build when so much of your first team/best players are on loan; when players who have outstanding seasons want away; when you can't attract notable young talent because of your middling Championship status. And it will still mean Gibson is stuck in a model where he has to loan the Club more money to shore up the inevitable Championship losses.
The model becomes one of trying to stay above the League 1 trapdoor.

He had the opportunity to have a go this summer, to give his manager the tools to get out of a poor league. This without additionally funding the club himself. A very rare opportunity.
Next summer we will be trying to bring in replacements for the loans and fill the gaps we didn't fill this summer. Howson and Watmore will be done as a minimum. There's nothing gradual about that.
Those that drop from the PL this season will be more formidable than Watford, Norwich and Burnley who may well still be down here next season.
