Whilst I appreciate the stance some have taken, not watching it (or posting about not watching it) hasn’t really achieved anything if we’re being honest.
I don’t mind admitting that I’ve totally indulged it as a do every World Cup/Euros. Watched as many matches as possible and even when I’ve been looking after the kids or whatever, it’s been on and I’ve been invested.
I do think it’s terrible that the tournament was in Qatar, but that wasn’t my decision, and I do think some of Qatar’s laws are totally barbaric, but I didn’t make them. If I took such a puritan attitude towards all the stuff I like it, life could get pretty boring pretty quickly.
Sometimes you just have to accept that you can’t cleanse humanity yourself, and just try to enjoy things while you can.
Sunday was an absolute joy and I feel priveleged to have witnessed it live. That’s not down to FIFA, the Qatari state, or anything other than the blokes on the pitch and throughout the tournament. Football is still the biggest & best sport on the planet imho and isn’t going anywhere for a long while.
I do like cricket too, and I haven’t boycotted the series in Pakistan either, despite some of their absurd laws. I presume plenty on here have boycotted that too.
