Anyone else not watch a single minute of the World Cup

Yeah righto chicken, you'll be telling me the Northallerton bypass has opened next !!!!
Thanks 👍
I'm much happier now that you've changed your avatar, Nobby. That Edmonds avatar was a bit disturbing.

It is that time of year though. Sing along with me Nobby. "Noel, Noel, Noel, Noel. He killed Mr. Blobby, he's going to hell"

Whilst I appreciate the stance some have taken, not watching it (or posting about not watching it) hasn’t really achieved anything if we’re being honest.

I don’t mind admitting that I’ve totally indulged it as I do every World Cup/Euros. Watched as many matches as possible and even when I’ve been looking after the kids or whatever, it’s been on and I’ve been invested.

I do think it’s terrible that the tournament was in Qatar, but that wasn’t my decision, and I do think some of Qatar’s laws are totally barbaric, but I didn’t make them. If I took such a puritan attitude towards all the stuff I like it, life could get pretty boring pretty quickly.

Sometimes you just have to accept that you can’t cleanse humanity yourself, and just try to enjoy things while you can.

Sunday was an absolute joy and I feel priveleged to have witnessed it live. That’s not down to FIFA, the Qatari state, or anything other than the blokes on the pitch and throughout the tournament. Football is still the biggest & best sport on the planet imho and isn’t going anywhere for a long while yet, despite its obvious flaws.

I do like cricket too, and I haven’t boycotted the series in Pakistan either, despite some of their absurd laws. I presume plenty on here have boycotted that too.

Evil triumphs when good people do nothing.
Not sure where I heard that, but I think it's true.
OP didn't try and force me to not watch the football.
Just posted that they didn't watch it on principle.
Tremendous respect to you my friend.
You made your stand in exactly the right way.

The people boycotting it didn’t really do anything though. The tournament went ahead and is now in the history books. I appreciate they may feel good about that, fair play to them, but it’s not really changed anything. Keep a lid on the self-congratulations I’d say 😁

Agree with all of that.
I couldn't care less if people chose to watch it or not but barring watching England win the tournament in 66 as a twelve year old, this for me, has
been the best world cup since and for so many reasons.

To see the emergence of unfancied teams like the USA, Canada, Oz, Japan, South Korea etc etc either pulling off shock results, advancing to the next stages
and even winning their group has been a massive highlight let alone the talent on display and competitiveness.

Another highlight that should also be remembered and appreciated is the fact that there ( as far as I'm aware ) has been no scenes of violence amongst opposing fans.

Being the age of 68, I will find myself to be very fortunate to live long enough to witness another world cup as enjoyable as the one I have just witnessed.

Football has become rife with corruption, which is hardly surprising given the amounts of money involved now - happens with just about anything that involves big money (see the Tories with PPE contracts etc) as i said earlier I decided not to watch this one ages ago when it became clear what had gone on to get it there. My choice - i know I’m a minority

You’re not wrong but virtually everything has become rife with corruption now, football is a reflection of a wider landscape. I’m not saying it should be embraced as such, but I think we sometimes have to remember that life is for living.

But those who have boycotted it did it out of personal principal and not to stop the football going ahead. That was inevitable. You seem to be suggesting that there was nothing gained by boycotting the football. You seem to have missed personal satisfaction. Good on them that did.
