Claims Akpom has gone for 2.5 million Euros

Too true.

Me and Sexpom for the next managerial duo.

Donā€™t rise to it mate. Itā€™s all a bit of fun.

Some football fans are convinced they can ā€œspotā€ good and bad players etc. What those fans donā€™t really account for is the fact that the vast majority of players are only good for a few years of their career.

Whatever happens with Akpom, even if he goes on to play #10 for Man City and outshines Haaland, it doesnā€™t take away from the fact that he was fairly cr@p when he first came.
With the poster in question sadly this isnā€™t the case. I had to formally complain about outrageous lies he posted. Can take a bit of banter but his comments were downright slanderous

What a really strange post. You're saying nobody could have seen something you and the majority didn't? Sounds a bit arrogant. I didn't see it back then but his display at QPR this season convinced me we had a player. I said so on the board at the time and people said I was wrong and he wasn't the answer. They could have turned out to be right, of course. Fortunately, they weren't.
When this topic started he was only in the squad because we had no other options. Wilder wanted him gone, he had done nothing in his career to date and he hadn't been taken on preseason. The QPR match was after this. At the time we were all talking about which Ā£10m striker we might buy and we had already signed or were on the verge of signing Forss & Hoppe and still had Coburn in the squad.

He was a very highly rated youngster but his career had never got going, with us or anywhere, so I don't think anyone was seriously suggesting that he would come good despite obviously having ability.

Chuba is the perfect example of the vagaries of being a footballer and a fan.
Clearly had it in his locker just by virtue of his time at Arsenal. Never set the world alight before this season though so perfectly reasonable for fans to either write him off or not be fussed about him staying.
However, his form this season proves that he's more than good enough and I'm sure he's been delighted that he's proving to both himself and those who've guided his career that he's a very talented lad.
Tremendous strength of character to keep at it in his time here and for that alone I'd offer him a new deal.

Bloody hell, someone had this saved (or went deep looking for it) just to make some people look silly? Get a life mate. When in actual fact all those comments were right at the time. He was bang average, now heā€™s having a purple patch that Nostradamus didnā€™t see coming. Long may it continue. If he goes back to his usual non scoring self later this season and next, do we bring back this thread again?

In 2013, The Independent predicted that this team would lead England to World Cup glory in 2022.
Someone obviously saw something in his early career.
šŸ˜ Seen that on FB loads and it always makes me laugh. Shows the unpredictability of football and double funny that they only got one player whoā€™s anywhere near the squad. Chuba probably the most abstract choice if you look at all of their careers!

Anybody that didn't write him off and wanted him to stay was an idiot. All evidence that we had seen from him across his entire career pointed to him being a mediocre championship striker at best and not someone we could expect to fire us to promotion. I'm sure everyone is delighted to see that he has proven them wrong but I think this rare occasion where that actually happens doesn't mean people's judgements are wrong.

He seems like a good bloke and I was very impressed with his attitude when he was brought back after being left out of the preseason trip. I said at the time that was wrong, not because I thought Akpom was the answer to our problems but simply because it's bad management to send such an obvious signal of not wanting a player that you might end up stuck with. It was the same for Uche.
I suppose ā€œan idiotā€ is the new wise man. Fans are very quick to judge and those that didnā€™t write him off at time by not commentating (cough me) perhaps hoped heā€™d go away and improve and return under a manager who saw his potential and play to his strengths. We have been lucky that we didnā€™t sell him and we now have a manager who sees how to effectively employ and give him service

Ridiculous to resurrect this thread. Whether you posted on it or not we all wondered why weā€™d paid Ā£3m for Chuba back then, absolutely nobody would have batted an eyelid had we given him away permanently for free, except maybe to criticise the club for more wasted money.

To rip it out of people who posted on a thread where opinions are offered at the time is hypocritical when everyone thought the same. Poor craic imo.

Tbf when Chuba came in I donā€™t think he or the club expected too much, maybe due in part to his transfer fee, which kind of gave the impression he was a journeyman striker who was going to be a benchwarmer at best.

Nonetheless I was impressed with him initially as he scored a few tap-ins but realistically not even the most optimistic analyst could have predicted his form this season. In fact we all thought he was done after being unceremoniously loaned out to a Greek club hardly anyone had heard of.

Thereā€™s no denying Akpom has a good pedigree spending so many years at the Gooners. Itā€™s perhaps then a mystery why heā€™s taken so long to find this kind of form when you could argue many players would have been told to hang up their boots long before now. Iā€™m not even sure anyone can say for sure he was played out of position either because heā€™s been literally all over the park for Carrick ā€” free role or not he still has to know his role and score goals.

Despite Akpomā€™s recent scoring surge I still think his value hasnā€™t gone up that much, but itā€™s fair to say heā€™s definitely put himself on the radar and at the same time realized that heā€™s going ride the wave.

Has my opinion changed about him?ā€” definitely but again Iā€™d say well he didnā€™t play at Arsenal all those years for nothing. Moreover, when he was loaned to some obscure Greek team I was just as mystified as anyone.

I think we just hope he can play and produce the goods now until the end of the seasonā€” if he does Iā€™m sure weā€™ll make the playoffs
