Carrick Manager of the Season

I am pretty comfortable that the set up we currently have in place at the club are very forward thinking, ........and have a strategy 😮

That doesnt mean I agree with all decisions and signings, but they are definitely trying to cover or plan for all eventualities.

No one in our squad is indispensable; they can all be replaced.

Some will go when we want them to; others will go when they want to.

In 5 years, there's a fair chance none of them will be here.

They use us, we usf them, and we all hope the interaction is mutually beneficial.

Long gone are the players playing as many games as Robbie Mustoe.

Still some distance from Mustoe having had a quick look!

Mustoe - 365
Howson - 285
Fry - 203

What a servant to the club he was!

I think Mustoe had about 450 in all competitions, Howson is just over 300.

If he's here for another 5 seasons, he might get close. 😉

He apparently played 450 games for Boro according to the Gazette and other online sources, but that can’t be right because that’s put him in our top ten of all time.

The appearances section of Boro’s records page on Wikipedia doesn’t include Mustoe. Pears is 10th with 424.

This makes it 454, unless the number of sub appearances is already included in the main number appearances, which may be the case.

I take it "other" means Anglo Italian cup. Actually, thinking about it RM, probably played in the ZDS cup too. It didn't actually end after we reached the final

I honestly can't see VDB leaving, it would be unfair to hold Hackney back and I don't think McGree's done enough for a move to the PL and at best would go to another Championship club.
Vdb has done enough to alert premier league clubs hes an outstanding talent. Hes not going to be with us long so enjoy him while hes with us

Thats all true but if your just swaping out one prospect with another and not building we will become a football factory like crewe were in the 80s and 90s

That factory phase in Crewe's existence ended 20 consecutive years in the 4th tier and ended with 8 seasons in the second tier, their first in 100 years.

If it gets us just the 1 promotion, I'll consider it a success.

I'd also add than neither Brighton nor Brentford's model gained them instant promotion.

It took Brighton 6 seasons and Brentford 7. We've been using their approach for less than a year. Ok, maybe we started from a higher position than them, but you probably have to go through 2 or 3 teams for it to work.

The Brentford team that went up looked very little like the team we beat in the playoffs under AK, and the likes of Maupy, Konza, Watkins and Behenrama (sp?) had all been and gone in the seasons in-between.

I still don't get the moaning, we're building a decent squad and have a plan at last. Zero long term vision from some fans, instant success expected after pretty much buying a whole new squad. We've blown millions on rubbish for years and got nowhere. We'll have targets that we can't sign until the summer, why blow money on short term solutions?

We have a plan 😳
To buy low and sell high - big tick in the box (Hackney looking good to deliver a good pay day too)

After that, I can only assume, based on what has happened, that the plan is to be a decent championship club that can sneak into the play offs every now and then.
I’ve no prob with that by the way but I’m not sure Carrick will stick around for that ride

If you don’t like us having to sell our best players, I’m afraid you’ll have to take up supporting a premier league team.

In fact, not just a prem team, a top 6 prem team.

In fact, just Man City.

In fact, not even Man City. Just Real Madrid or Barcelona.

Scratch all that. If you don’t like us having to sell our best players, I’m afraid you’ll have to take up supporting Real Madrid.

😉

Think we'd all have liked a new striker in, but it's not like nipping down to the player supermarket and grabbing one off the shelf is it?

Was there one available, for the right price, who was better than the players we already have on the books who can play up front?

No point filling the squad unnecessarily and no point paying over the odds for someone who won't improve us when everyone is fit.

Honestly think some fans would only be happy if we immediately went out and spent all the Rogers money on a panic buy.
