Playing against his former loan side today. Having scored 2 goals in 2 games is Finn Azaz starting to make a big impression for Boro.
I asked Michael Carrick about the former Villa man and his recent contributions.

Q: A great weekend for Boro and a big week for Finn Azaz and of course he scored against us for Plymouth so he must owe us to keep his goal scoring run going?

MC:
Yes well he took one off when he scored against us but he keeps he scoring for us anyway.

Nah. Two good goals actually. Two very different goals from Finn. Particularly the one against Leicester was a terrific finish to be running at full speed to then have the kind of softness of feet and the balance to kind of lift it over the goalkeeper. In some ways it is easier to just come on and go for power or try and lift it too much and actually go over the power. So, I thought his feeling and his touch was very, very good. That is not easy to do and I was delighted for him, obviously it was a big goal for him and you can see in his performances how much he has grown and even in training and around the place, feeling comfortable and learning off other players in terms of what they are good at as well and the connections, so yes, I am really pleased with how he is doing.

I think Azaz is the real deal. I wouldn’t be surprised if he was the next one off our conveyor belt and sold for £15m+ within 18 months or so.

He has a lovely touch, speed of thought, a lovely passing range, works hard, always shows for the ball and has that skill you can’t really quantify - the ability to appear in the right place at the right time in and around the box, almost out of nowhere.

I think he’s brilliant.

I should mention the club are adamant they are not trying to follow the model of buying to quickly sell on. Villa watched Rogers play against them and the manager said we have to buy.

It might not be the model but it has proved to be the reality unfortunately. I find it frustrating but that's just life for a club like us I suppose, maybe never quite being able to build as we would like due to being stripped for parts every window.

Azaz has really turned around my early opinion of him and looks like a proper player, I'm excited to see what he can do when he's got Latte Lath to feed.

He has tried to do much on a couple of occasions where he has taken on about 5 players and lost the ball. Mind you if he does get through one time it will be the goal of the season. Lovely player and great touch.

He will be a big asset once he integrated with the other players fully.

He looks to have everything but pace.

I do like how he strikes a ball

2 goals in 2 games - too late unfortunately.

Written off about 15 mins into his Boro debut by the board experts. Probably the same ones who did the same thing about Rogers then were crying when we sold him 6 months later........

Thanks Finn but you've had your chance and blew it.

NEXT!

I think he maybe lacks a yard of pace to make it to that sort of price bracket.

He reminds me more of a Lee Tomlin type than a Morgan Rogers.

(That’s not a dig at him, by the way… Tomlin was a good player and still earned a Premier League move off the back of his performances for us)
