This is a common one.
Feel free to do the research and inform us, and you, of the incremental cash benefit of having the Royal Family.

I'll give you some help - no one knows.

What they can do is produce an estimated £ number for UK tourism and attempt to align that to the Royal Family.
What happens without a Royal Family?

London is a fabulous City offering art, culture, museums and Palaces in the city and nearby.
Couple that with tourist options to York, Edinburgh, Manchester, Cardiff, Bristol, Lake District, Welsh Countryside (and that's before you mention Middlesbrough) and tourists will still flock here

Paris - has as many tourists as London based on palaces and museums
The Coliseum in Rome - 3m visits a year and not a lion to be seen.

Many are still in favour of having a Royal Family, and although the point regarding them bringing in money through tourism is probably overstated and exaggerated, it is still a valid point that they do help to increase tourism, you will see for yourself that if you visit tourist shops in London most shops will have a large section full of Royal Family mugs, t-shirts, fridge magnets etc.

Our Royal Family is respected worldwide, the Queen was one of the most highly respected head of states worldwide.

One option would be to phase out the majority of titles and payouts until we have a small royal family with a modest estate. Tax them so that gradually over a period of many years the vast wealth is in the hands of the state, not the family.

Queue the “I’m not angry post” despite being all over any royal thread going way off topic to rant about them.

Couldnt be so bothered to get angry about something which really doesn’t affect me.

bringing in tourism money is a hypothesis it isn't a valid point until it's backed up with facts, which of course are thin on the ground.

tat shops.......they'd just selling other UK/England/London tat, like every other tourist destination. It isn't reliant solely on royals and I don't think the tat shop industry is enough value to make it worth having.

Respected, they are hated in plenty of places too, but none of that matters, because popularity is no reason to give tens of billions of public money to a family in my lifetime.

Imagine how much money would be made for the british economy turning buck pal into a state owned hotel. 50k/night to stay in the queens bedroom. There would be a queue around the block of saudi and chinese 'business men' willing to pay that.

You look at the other various systems around the world and you still end up with a privileged ruling class, from the extremes of Putin, The Ayatollahs and oil rich despots of the Middle East, to the billionaire buffoons who run the USA.

There’ll always be somebody.

To some degree or other. But that's no reason to give up and just give piles of cash and privalige to a family based for eternity. I'm not sure who the oligarchy of Finland, or norway is. They have royals in other countries but without the rediuclous wealth or privilage they have here.

That's why in my previous post I'd suggested taxing them until over time the vast majority of their wealth belongs to the state.
