* The Unofficial "Official" Boro v Ipswich [04/24] Match-Day thread *

Good result but it all but ends our chances of getting into the top 6.

(Yeah I know a lot of fans were saying it was over after the Hull game but I was hoping Norwich would have lost today to give us a glimmer of hope).

Just such a shame Lath picked up that injury because if he hadn't we'd comfortably be in the playoff places now.

Our season had that auspicious start and the injuries and January happenings derailed our recovery. Look forward to a Summer of remodelling for another good go next season.

I'm thinking the most likely culprit is the horrific start to the season. We had it all to do since then.

Good performance that, their keeper has made two worldies to deny us all three points.

Dieng 7 - some good saves spoiled by a bit of dodgy distribution

Ayling 8 - great assist, worked his balls off
Rav 7 - great tackle first half to test Chaplins acting ability
Clarke 7 - lived on the edge made mistakes but got away with it
Engel 8 - best defensive game for some time, despite very little support in front. Block on Hutchinson shot was a point saver
O’brein 6 - worked hard but fairly periphery
Howson 7 - did his job
Jones 6 - so many nearly moments
Azaz 6- didn’t quite come off for him, but worked hard
Silvera 5 - offered very little
Lath 8 - non stop effort great header

Subs 6

He’s just like Tav some don’t notice what he brings to the team until they are gone.
Fully agree. We are a far better side with Jones in the starting 11. We massively missed him when out injured.

You can't beat genuine pace. Yes his final ball and finishing can be frustrating (like Tav). Yet if it was consistently good then he'd not be with us.

I think Jones and Clarke are entering final year? Hopefully we secure both in the summer.

Never known a referee want the home team to win so much! Just knew he was going to blow for full time as soon as Dieng got the ball there and Lath was away.

Great performance from us today against a very dangerous team, I’m glad we’ve ruined someone’s day and they weren’t able to have their party.

9 unbeaten, UTB.

Thought the ref was excellent today, got every decision right and ignored the crowd baying for freekicks and penalties

Another decent performance, frustrating at times but a fun game of football to watch. The biggest thing for me over the course of this run is that we have to be better at playing the ball through the pitch, we never really look like we're in control of games like we did last season, everything is a struggle for us. Ayling was the only one at the back who had composure to get his head up and pick a pass, O'Brien and Howson put the hard yards in but lacked the quality to get us away on the break more consistently even if only to keep Ipswich honest.

We could do with more options in the front 4 and the left side is clearly lacking but if we went into next season with Jones/Forss, Azaz and Latte Lath as your starters then I wouldn't be too unhappy. They'll cause teams more than enough problems. Latte Lath was flagging for the last 10-15 minutes and we have no one to replace him with whereas Ipswich could bring on Moore and Broadhead who have scored plenty of goals this season.

Dieng 7 - Assured.
Clarke 6 - Solid, but lost his man for their goal.
Ayling 8 - MOTM comfortably, looks like he's playing for a contract.
RVDB 7 - As solid as he always is.
Engel 7 - Solid game, made a great last ditch tackle.
Howson 6 - Ropey at points but decent enough.
O'Brien 5 - Can't pass, can't cross, too slow. Hope we don't sign him.
Jones 6 - Off game today, broke down with him a lot but still offered a threat.
Azaz 6 - Meh, looks ok sometimes but too slow and dawdles on the ball too much.
Silvera 4 - Awful, looks like a little boy lost.
Latte Lath 7 - He just can't stop scoring, also amazes me how good he is in the air considering he's not the tallest.

I'm thinking the most likely culprit is the horrific start to the season. We had it all to do since then.
The horrific start to the season after we had practically a team of strangers getting used to each other cost us the autos.
The injury crisis cost us the playoffs.
