Who Did Your Parents Have an Irrational Hatred of?

My Dad hated coronation street and eastenders.
All the soaps basically. Crossroads etc…

Wouldn’t put them on at all.

Fine by me and now I don’t watch them now either
My dad hated all the soaps too…but could tell you exactly what was going on in each one!!

My mam hated Ronaldo & Frankie Dettori with a vengeance.

My nana hated Lester Piggott, she used to watch the racing on tv and tried to push him off the horse with her walking stick.
Just remembered also my mam bless her ,hated David Coleman( Sportsnight on bbc1) .. she called him chatty Kathy.

My dad hated Alex Ferguson and Maggie Thatcher,if they both turned up on the same news bulletin that was like a red mist.

my Mam also hated Alex Ferguson ,which was quite strange as she was the loveliest ,nicest person you could wish to meet .

Benny hill - my mum especially because of the obvious double entendres, t*ts & @ss in stockings etc.
Strangely though not the same for Carry on films which has always baffled me.

My grannie was the same!. Benny Hill was too smutty but Carry On films were great fun and she would always have them on.

Saw the writer Vince Powell interviewed and he was adamant that the subtext was to undermine racial intolerance. Unfortunately this message didn't make it to the playground, whereas language like "n**-n**" did. And his claim to be an early social justice warrior probably wasn't helped by the all you can eat stereotype buffet that was Mind Your Language.
I alwayes imagined it was supposed to hit a similar target to that of Til Death Us Do Part, where we all laugh at the bigot. A risky strategy In the 1970s.

My dad had an irrational hatred (otherwise the most chilled and kindest of men) of the Who and Roger Daltrey doing My Generation…..he thought it was totally disrespectful to people with a stammer !
