Who Did Your Parents Have an Irrational Hatred of?

It's a long list in my case but the one that I remember because it came up almost every week when I was getting right into football was Glen Hoddle, my dad could never see a clip of him on match of the day without commenting about how he wasn't a real footballer!

When I was a kid I wanted to watch the fayre lots of my schoolfriends watched - Benny HIll, Love Thy Neighbour etc. My dad hated all that kind of stuff and wouldn't have it on. Looking back now I'm grateful because what he actually hated was lowest common denominator rubbish which pandered to the basest human instincts and tastes - the naked racism of LTN and women as objects as in BH.
Love Thy Neighbour is a bit of a conundrum.
On one hand the language and phrases used are obviously very uncomfortable viewing. It could never be shown now.
But on the other hand, the story lines did shine a light on the madness of bigotry and racism. Eddie Booth was certainly never the hero of the show, or portrayed as the good guy. He was shown up as a fool in every episode.
Also, I think it was the first prime time show with a black actor in a leading role. He himself believes it was an important show, with a valid message which has been lost.

My mam had a dislike for the ‘bad boys’ of sport, particularly Alex Higgins & John McEnroe.
And she didn’t like Boris Becker cos she saw him pick his nose on court once 😁
She really really didn’t like Diana Princess of Wales.

Me dad was usually asleep in his chair.

My stepdad hated Boy George, too much off the straight and narrow for him, he hated men dressing up as women, and a sign of modernity that really challenged him. Most of the criticism and bias he displayed with BG disappeared when he was watching Danny la Rue, he just saw him as a good old fashioned entertainer.

My mum hated TV strongman Jon Pall Sigmarsson with an incredible passion. She had met Geoff Capes at the Spalding Tulip Festival (he was displaying his budgies) and he had been really nice to her. She hated JPS's 'I am a Viking' persona. It was the most out of character thing, my mum is a lovely, quiet woman, but if he came on the screen, the red mist came down. Oh, and Eric Bristow, she despised him.
This is brilliant.

My dad hated Arthur Askey,I was working offshore and phoned home. I said how things,he said that b****d Arthur Askey has died and they are showing all his films you are better off where you are.
My Grandma also hated Arthur Askey.
"Stupid little man", she called him.

Roy Castle and Pate.
These weren't a double act kids, just the two things from my childhood my parents, who were the most tolerant of people usually, couldn't abide.🤷

A fair portion of the older members of my family do not have much of a good word about Diana. Although obviously they never wanted her to die young, they never bought into the “people’s princess” that is talked about.

As much as Charles was with Camilla, she was having it away with Hewitt. Surely there is not a sane person on earth who can look at Prince Harry, compare him to James Hewitt who it is confirmed Diana had it away with numerous times, and say Harry is not his child. William is clearly King Charles son but Harry is not Charles’ son.

Mam definitely wasn’t a fan of Gail from Coronation Street, not sure if it was the actress or character (probably both) but her chin definitely had something to do with it 😂
