Non cloud video door bell recommendations

Any recommendations things to avoid. Is it worth getting a base unit. Not for me but for an older gentleman so needs to be fairly simple

not a doorbell camera but small. You could get an amazon blink. Can be wired or use batteries. Get the hub and a 64gb usb stick. Not the best but fine for a front door.

I'd get a standard doorbell and just put a camera covering the door, less complexity.

I personally like nest, it is cloud but has facial recognition.

You can use it without a prescription, but less features e.g only get love video and no facial recognition.

The benefit of cloud subs is the video is all there if you need it.

But if you just want basic, there will be cheaper options but I still think smart doorbells are all fairly crap.

I've just sacked off our Ring doorbell and bought a Eufy one. No subscription SD card in the ringer unit, can easily be upgraded to a big one if needed. Only just started using it, seems okay.

Miles longer battery life too - claiming it needs changing every 6 months rather than 3-4 weeks on the Ring.

Eufy! We have one and it’s great. It comes up very high in all of the comparisons to the Ring doorbell. The app is easy, put a micro SD in the ring unit, and plug it in. No subscription required. We paid about £80 for a factory refurbished one off eBay but it was brand new and sealed when it came.

The concern with non-cloud is someone could just bash it off before they break into your house couldn’t they?
You store the data locally but it can be anywhere in your house I think. You can also have them upload to cloud storage.

I don't think security cameras etc are particularly useful if someone decides to beak into your house. There is plenty of footage of people stood right next to doorbell cameras kicking doors in etc and those people don't get caught. What it does do is act as a bit of a deterrent because if someone is burgling a house at random then I suspect the ones with less security would be chosen first. If the house is being targeted for any specific reason then it doesn't matter what security you have (as we see with rich people's houses with advanced security being robbed).

We have a Ring but I have let the subscription expire. It was £20 per year when I got the unit 2 years ago, the following year it went up 50% to £30 and then this year it has gone up another 40% to £50. It's unjustifiably high. My doorbell is now just a doorbell but I can still live view/answer etc. I'm thinking if I want video recording I am better getting a separate security camera and leaving the doorbell as it is.

Or stick a piece of chewing gum on it.
Well by then they're in view surely...if they're hiding their face, gum wouldn't be needed

As said above they're probably rarely used as evidence although it will happen

For us they've been useful in courier claims when they've tried to say they've delivered a parcel and we can show they have not, or speaking to people at the door or just knowing who it is. But we don't have a video bell, just a standard £20 doorbell and a nest iq camera. Our sub covers however many cameras so we have them on the drive, garage, front door and back garden covering pretty much the whole house, as well as a couple of internal ones that activate when we leave the house or at night. Picked most up used for quite cheap

Subs are a ballache but I prefer to access the footage easily and have it backed up. The cameras record 24/7 and it stores 10 days of 24/7 footage and 60 days of alert footage triggered by motion, sound etc which is more than enough.

Its recorded to an SD card installed on a base inside your home, not on the actual device itself!
Fair enough.

As above I actually doubt video doorbells alone are much of a deterrent to robbers.

But - what IS the point of video doorbells exactly?

I use 2x eufy cameras. Wish I had gone the 2k route but even at 1080p the quality is excellent.

They connect via WiFi but also require a micro sd card to store the footage.

I'll eventually replace my ring camera with the eufy door bell.

Additionally, you can purchase a hard drive storage decide that stores the video on from the camera. So if they do hit out the camera, footage is still stored on the hard drive device.
