The taste preference seems to be by group though, not the individual. Group A drinks Moretti/ Peroni etc, Group B drinks carling, stella, fosters etc, Group C drinks Craft beers, Guinness etc. I would expect that there isn't a taste bud difference between the two groups, so why isn't there more of a mix of choices within the groups? Seems to me people just drink what their crowd drinks? All the groups have been mates before they were even legal to drink, and are all about the same age. Was even the same way with back in the day, with other groups.Neither are wrong. You seem to be struggling with the concept that people have different taste preferences.
I don't like olives. I have no problem believing other people genuinely like them though!
I'm sure you're right that some people - particularly young men - only drink beer to fit in and aren't really that fussed. I'm sure some only drink it to get drunk. That seems to be your own personal experience and that's fair enough.
But why us it so hard to believe that others genuinely like the taste of it?
I love Weissbier. My mother in law is not a drinker and she doesn't really go out with friends. She very rarely gets so much as tipsy and if she does it's on wine.
But on the odd occasion she'll happily have a half of my Weissbier. I can't think of any reason she'd do that other than because she likes the taste!
I didn't like Olives, neither did our lass, but now we both by them every week. I'm not sure if I actually love the taste of them or if I just find them intreguing. The fresh ones have by far the better texture though, the ones in a jar are trash.
100% appreciate what I'm saying will sound odd to a lot of people, but I just don't get why different groups drink the same thing as their group, if they're doing it by taste choice. Put these groups in different places too (restaurant, pub, weddings, the races, gigs etc) and their preferred taste then seems to change. Would expect that to be a lot more consistent.
