Graeme Souness

Personally don’t think there’s anything wrong with what he said, think it’s more about the game going a bit soft over the last 15 years or so, fouls being given constantly, refs spoiling games, but now they’re being told to let the game flow.

If Karen Carney was offended then she should’ve pulled him up about it on air rather than just pull a face.

It's pathetic that it's even an issue. There is clear context. If women are playing the game you wouldn't describe it as a man's game. Same if it was kids. However, he was analysing the men's game. He's not saying football in general, he's specifically talking about today's game.

He's using being manly as a way to say "be strong, physical, tough etc" which is a bit outdated but it is in no way offensive.

To my mind he’s using an outdated term that he will surely have been briefed on. It isn’t a “man’s game”. It’s a game. It’s a physical game. Just say that. Why bring gender or sex into it?

It’s almost if people say this stuff just because they know *some* people will respond and then they can moan about not being able to say anything any more. Just grow up and move with the times FFS.

It was a man’s game though? The vibe I got was that he was talking about separating the men from the boys and not the men from the women. For me he’s done nothing wrong.

I’m not sure, I don’t think you can get rid of these outdated terms overnight, Souness has probably been using that term for 50 plus years, he is from an age group which probably does not see anything wrong with using it.

It is going to take a long time to get rid of all this embedded sexism, racism etc.

He talking about watching football. We got our football back. This is how I like to watch it, men at it.

Perhaps the best way to resolve "issues" like this is to have male pundits and commentators on the men's games and female pundits and commentators on the women's games
