Graeme Souness

I've said for a long time, why is it just restricted to former PL players, a player for say, Rochdale, can talk well in football matters as opposed to a former PL player

Don Goodman doesn't sit in the studio during Super Sunday on premier league games.

Anyway, you are missing my point - I'm not saying you should have played in the premier league, I'm saying that sky clearly do.

Sky clearly only let male pundits who have played in the top tier in the studio on super Sunday. They would never have some bloke who has only played league 1 as a pundit next to Souness.

It's undoubtedly tokenism from Sky.
Not sure if you agree or disagree with Sky’s policy but I’ll say I’m glad they now mix it up. Certainly the days of Keys and Gray dinosaurs are long gone and that’s something to be thankful for.

I don't think we will see a lot of Graeme Souness in mainsteam media from now on - he will be sent to Room 101 and join Matt Le Tiss, Phil Thompson and Charlie Nicolas in the Jurrasic suite.

I know what Souness meant, but you are not allowed say that nowadays because vocabulary has changed. Football is now gender neutral (which I agree with) but what I don't agree with is when people believe their opinions on word interpretation dominant at the exclusion of others. So by saying the word men in certain contexts you exclude women in their opinion. Other words that have changed assistant referee not linesman, Batter not Batsman, even when referring to men. As said by others if GS said its a game of strong physical contact, he would have been OK. His sin to some is living in the past, the media in general want to be seen at the forfront of modernity.

I’d love to see some sort of popular push back against this sort of nonsense.

Organisations like Sky will sideline people because they fear for their reputation and ultimately being cancelled themselves.

Do they really represent their customers base in taking these actions though?

Do most people feel this way?

I’m not at all sure that they do.

How would that help with this situation? Are you under the impression the likes of Aluko and Beth England only watch football to see women pundits and not the actual matches themselves? 🤣
No. I was making that point that if female commentators are going to get upset about fellow commentators referring to a game of football between two teams of male players as a man's game then perhaps it's not the right game for them to be commentating on.
