£40 a year for garden waste collections

And so it begins...

Council will now charge £40 a year to collect garden waste. No doubt next year it will be outsourced to Corney and Musgrave and the price will double.
I think we're the last council in the North East to charge, Rishy's North Yorkshire have been charging for years and are currently twice that amount.

The big problem is, we can't go to government demanding more money because they just say you can't be that skint if your doing bins weekly and doing green bins- which aren't a statutory duty.

I have had to pay for garden waste collection for the last 2 years down here. I don’t mind paying it understanding the council needs to raise urgent funds to keep this and other services going.

It is a hidden rise on your council tax on top of what they are going to add to the council tax.

They have you by the bollox and nothing you can do.

I remember that in Stockton quite a few years ago you could go and collect some of the compost free that was made with the green waste - that might give some value for money back?

It's fair enough in the current climate, not everyone has a garden, so is it fair for it to come out of their council tax when other more important things are under threat.

Never used a library or public park for years so do I have to pay for them.
