I hate this latest fashion at the best of times, far too much risk involved. But doing it away against Chelsea is just plain fkcing stupid.
We did in the first leg too and almost cost us there, was bad finishing on Chelsea part.I’m pretty sure we didn’t play out from the back for most of the first leg? A bit odd that we didn’t come with any kind of “game management” ideas.
That’s it though I think that was the game management approach. Hold on to the ball.I’m pretty sure we didn’t play out from the back for most of the first leg? A bit odd that we didn’t come with any kind of “game management” ideas.

Today we needed to turn them over and play in their half
That WAS our plan B.That’s it though I think that was the game management approach. Hold on to the ball.
I have to say Carrick got it completely wrong tonight. I know it’s our style to play out from the back but we didn’t over do it in home leg and it paid dividends. Today we needed to turn them over and play in their half even if just to buy minutes and a breather but we didn’t and we’ve been hammered.
Hopefully he learns and we learn how to play to plan B.
IMHO, your spot on, but, Carrick Ball is not going to work here. You just can not polish a turd. I think he will be gone season end to a team who can play his style of football. We're going nowhere this year. Probably not next year either, but need to stick at a system and be patient like Brighton and Brentford etc. That's the only sustainable way.
Did we though? We didn’t need to win tonight. We only needed to hold them off. Instead we gave them goals for free.Need pace in the team to do that though.
