“Offensive” train announcement

Pie crust spitting rage? What are you on about? It’s things like this that the average floating voter notices, not issues of corruption and sleaze however vital they may be, and if you don’t realise this then you, too, are very naive.
Think you are really insulting the intelligence of the average voter by suggesting that they would be more bothered about an announcement on a train than corruption at the highest level of government

People who like to get outraged by absolutely nothing are clearly targeted by the right over this, because they know they lap this sort of thing up without question, just like you have. And they are very unlikely to be an average floating voter

Gord, if you really don’t know why things like this will make people vote Tory then you are naive. People will associate the Tories with being against things like this and the Tories will milk it.
Tell me why it will move people towards the Tories? It's not going to make racists, hard right wing people of folks that don't naturally have those tendencies. The anti PC brigade already vote Tory if they have racist / xenophobic / anti LGBT tendencies etc.

Most moderate people will recognise this for the stupidity that it is and forget about it, it won't move people to the hard right who don't belong there.

Personally, I think the article is rubbish and if the person is offended it is indeed PC gone mad. However, as I’m not a racist plank I am not driven towards the right by it.

In fact I see those on the right who love nothing better than calling people snowflakes getting themselves all worked up if someone calls them a gammon.
How on earth could this push someone towards the conservatives? Really not seeing the correlation here
Really, JM14? You don’t see how people sick if this type of thing will tend to move more to the right and the party that thinks it’s all nonsense?

This has absolutely nothing to do with political parties... the fact you come to that conclusion is more absurd than the whole train announcer argument. You can be ‘left’ leaning and still think this is way over the top.
Yes, you can, but if you can’t see how things like this nudge the average Joe and Joanne towards the party that has no time for it and publicly says so, then I am very surprised.

You've been asked to explain how and all you can say is we must be daft not to be able to see it.
We've pointed out that moderafe, reasonable people won't lurch to the right over PC gone mad because they aren't naturally right wing.

I'm a socialist, progressively thinking and even I think the article is ridiculous. However, I won't suddenly lurch to the right and start voting for an oppressive, corrupt government like the one we have now.

Huge levels of poverty across the country, austerity, corruption, 150k covid deaths, voter suppression, police bill just to name a few things thats happened in the last few weeks V an announcement on a train.

Nope I really dont see how someone could look past all of the above, but decide to switch political party on the basis of a train announcement. If someone does then they dont really have the intelligence or maturity to be voting.

This thread has been hilarious to read.

What I don't understand is why this would make people vote tory?

Would you expect them to introduce an act of Parliament banning the recognition of non-binary people?

If you're an intolerant old gammon then just embrace it it and crack on, you don't need the daily mail to give you an 'excuse'.
If you and others on here really don’t understand why things like this will make people move towards voting for a party which publicly ridicules things like this then you are part of the problem. Take your heads out of the ground and look around you. This is meat and drink to the Tories.

Oh and by the way, why is it okay to call people an “intolerant old gammon” but it’s not okay to use the terms “woke” or “snowflake”?

To counter that is it OK to use woke, snowflake, melt etc but then feel offended by Gammon? Cuts both ways.

How much is it going to impact your life when the train announcement says good morning passengers to you instead of ladies and gentlemen? It it really worth getting so angry about?

Ask the voters of Hartlepool what would mean more to them, allegations of corruption at the top level of government or ordinary people lbeing bollocked for not including non binaries. I think you will find that, rightly or wrongly, the latter is far more likely to sway the way they vote. And that might be because they are bigoted, ignorant brexiteers but it’s the bigoted, ignorant brexiteers that Labour needs to win over because that is the only way they will get power back. Any you and all the others on here who have belittled this thread need to WAKE UP, smell the coffee and realise that or the clown Johnson will be here for another six years.

At it's most basic level, the Conservative party is the party of conservation, advocating a stalemate in the way society is structured and behaves (albeit the current iteration at least badges this as "progress" to attract the disenfranchised).

However, society is changing - culturally, technologically and behaviourally (largely driven by generational differences in how the world is viewed). This is nothing new and has happened for centuries. I think in the short term the Conservatives could make political capital out of stories like this as they play to their base but in the longer term I think there will be a realignment of thinking in this country, something which in my opinion the current government understands all to well, hence the efforts to preserve the current set up and their power over it for as long as possible.

Labour siding with the bigots and racists really isnt the solution to any of this

If you don’t realise that things like this are noted by the average voter and used in weighing up their voting decision then that might explain why Labour are struggling to make a dent in Johnson’s majority. YOU might think such things insignificant but you need to look through the eyes of the average middle ground voter and this will be significant to them.

And you can get on your political high horse and look down loftily on them for thinking that way but that just goes to prove that you are out of touch with what they think. You will retain the moral high ground for proclaiming that sleaze at a high level in the Nasty party is far more of an issue but the you will not appeal to the average electorate. You want proof? Just look at the Hartlepool result and the result of the last general election.

The average voter is not massively concerned about corruption at a high level of the Tory party, they are concerned at what they’ve see as the erosion of their way of life they have always known and until you and others like you realise that, Johnson will remain in power, God help us.
